My experience with LiveAuctioneers was a nightmare!

My experience with LiveAuctioneers has resulted in significant financial loss and raises serious concerns about the platform’s practices and consumer protections. I purchased three artworks through their platform that were later conclusively determined to be counterfeit, with written confirmation from the respective artists.
Despite submitting clear evidence and supporting documentation, LiveAuctioneers failed to take meaningful action, provide restitution, or offer any viable resolution. This is particularly troubling given that payments were processed directly through their platform, creating a reasonable expectation of buyer protection and transaction security.
In my view, this reflects a failure to adequately vet sellers, enforce authenticity standards, and protect consumers from fraudulent activity. Furthermore, the lack of responsiveness and accountability from their customer service raises additional concerns about compliance with basic consumer protection standards.
My subsequent research indicates that this is not an isolated incident. Multiple customers have reported similar experiences involving counterfeit items and a lack of resolution, suggesting a potential pattern of negligence or systemic failure. I strongly advise potential buyers to be extremely cautious. Based on my experience and other victims, I cannot recommend using LiveAuctioneers.

Good auction site, rubbish service

Seen this site before when I saw an item through them from Mynt Auctions: I dont know why they bother.
Mynt are clearly harvesting auction sites items and offering them at '$1' , well below the value and what the original auction was posting (as I saw).
Any bids just end without a winner , as they haven't reached an unknown reserve.
Anyway, proper auction here and all good, until it came to delivery. No ' collection' possible, so they offered me a 'special' postal rate. That turned out to be a default of $167, with no alternative, plus a strange admin fee of $60.
What I'm getting at here is that none of those fees are displayed beforehand and, having bought the item, you've got no choice.
So,I bought it on March 17th and no movement for weeks until Fedex delivered it in a few days by today, 14th April.

Very poor shipping service paid for…

Very poor shipping service paid for item and had a text on March 27th to pay invoice! Paid invoice immediately at high cost for handling and shipping and expected an expedited service at the cost, but realized after contacting the Bad Shipping you supplied numerous times after no contact for a week ! Called several times this week and was given a runaround from the poor shipping company! Had to contact my credit bureau and other federal agencies to actually get any movement, They charged me over $50.00 for a two ounce package and finally sent i t UPS ground which I checked should of been about one fourth that cost and if sent express of been even half of what they charged! You should be ashamed having a company rip customers off like this and I will let everyone I know not to use any of your services in the future!

Concerns for no protection from scammers and lack of vetting

Their intentions with coin auctions may be good, but their inability to fully vet the auction houses is a problem. Concerns on my transaction with Key Date Coins is that the listed terms favor an auction house taking NO RESPONSIBILITY for the quality of their coins, which is the only reason a numismatist would want to purchase a coin. And further concerns are in the possible rigging of the review process on Live Auctioneers, when several authentic onestar reviews of key Date Coinswere taken down and other 5 star reviews are apparently not legitimate as they are all submitted on the same exact date and by the same exact reviewer. Online bidders have nothing to base their trust on with a situation like this.

Perfect experience

Recently purchased a piece at A-1 Auction through Live Auctioneers and the process was smooth and efficient. I had some questions afterward and Michelle U. at Customer Service answered them quickly and cheerfully. I did arrange my own shipper however since I had a bad experience last year with the Live Auctioneer arranged shipping - very expensive and it took weeks to receive my item.

They do not vet sellers or…

They do not vet sellers or autheniticity on any items. Lot's of fakes for sale. They also force you to pick up, arrange a third party shipping service or pay them 4-10x what shipping cost through them. My $45 dollar item is now $165 and most likely fake...and I will have no remedy. Avoid!

The auction company is Hannam's in…

The auction company is Hannam's in England. I give them a poor rating because 1) they acknowledge my max bid 3 weeks before the auction 2) gave my max bid to someone else the day of the auction 3) the item sold for my max bid 4) gave me a flimsy excuse that my max bid went to someone else because it wasn't my turn to bid. I can only guess that they had a friend who wanted my item and they made sure they got it. There is nothing good I can say about them.

Terrible Shipping Experience

Great platform. I won’t buy from live auctioneers again unless the auction house has in house shipping. The live auctioneer shipping program is a joke. You charged me $75 to ship a small book. You should not allow auction houses to sell on your platform unless they have an in house shipping program.

Shipping damages

Let me start by saying, LiveAuctioneers has been the absolute worst company to deal with. They are great if you’re not using their shipping option. I would advise to use private shipping over going through them. I had a very disappointing experience with LiveAuctioneers regarding a damaged item claim. Despite their stated policies around insured shipments, my case has gone unresolved for weeks with no meaningful progress.

Customer support repeatedly tells me they are “working with the shipping company,” but this appears to be a stalling response. There has been no clear update, no timeline, and no accountability. Communication has been inconsistent, and I’ve had to follow up multiple times just to get the same vague answer.

At this point, it feels like customers are left on their own when issues arise. Based on my experience, if you are expecting a timely resolution or reimbursement for damages, you may need to be prepared to escalate the matter further, potentially through formal channels like small claims court.

I would strongly caution others to consider this before purchasing their shipping for high-value or fragile items through this platform.

Update: Every time I leave them a bad review, they “we are very sorry about your recent experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out” as if I have not been reaching out on a weekly basis just to then not be responded to. Oh the representative that I have talked to over the past 2-3 months, Cherry, she says the same thing in every email too. Yet they drag their feet, in hopes that you give up and they can scam people out of money “100% insured” more like “100% insured to not be insured”. LiveAuctioneers has to be one of the top scammers. Let me start a business to just rip people off. What a joke
