Unable to unlock / pick up car on two separate bookings
Hi Karshare,
Although I think your business is a fantastic idea, I've been let down by your technology both times I've used your app. The first time, I stopped for petrol at a service station where there was no mobile data connection and was subsequently unable to unlock and start the car until I called your support team, losing an hour in the process. This morning I arrived early to pick up a car for a second rental, but was unable to unlock the car because of a "technical error" with my account. After first waiting for nearly an hour for your hotline to open, I then had to call several times to try various things, with the end result being that I was unable to use the car and had to arrange alternative transport, having wasted 2 hours in the process. The only reason you've avoided a 1* review is that your customer service agent tried her best to help and was appropriately apologetic (even though it's also not her fault that your tech has problems!). Very disappointed and will not be using your service again.
They Ruined My Trip.
Unfortunately, Trust Pilot wouldn't let me give a zero star to this scam of a "technology" company with useless customer support.
The idea for the keyless technology was great but was poorly executed; they obviously did not think through all possibilities.
I rented a car for six days and went on a trip with my girlfriend. On the second day, we went to dinner with friends. During the meal, my contact lenses fell off, and I couldn't see anything. So, I handed my phone to my girlfriend to retrieve my glasses from the car, since it's "keyless". However, that was against their policy! They ended up terminating my account, denying access to the car, and charging me £2,000.
I'm well aware that no one else should drive the car, but really? I was effectively blind. How else was I supposed to get my glasses?
As a result, a customer support representative called me to explain the situation. When I told them my belongings were still in the car, they said they could remotely unlock it for me. But as it turned out, they couldn't due to "malfunctions in the system." They promised technicians would resolve the issue first thing in the morning and keep me updated.
The next morning, when they didn't call, I had to reach out to them. They told me the system should be working by then, so I quickly took a 30-minute train to the car. To my dismay, it was still locked with my belongings inside. They told me this was all they could do and that someone would claim the car (and my belongings) at an unknown time.
To sum up my experience: My trip was ruined. I was charged £2,000 not for letting someone else drive the car, but for merely fetching my glasses from it. I couldn't see for the rest of the trip, and they were no help at all. They just took my money and the car.
My advice: Use Turo instead. They are much more reliable.

Extremely impressed
As both a owner and hirer on the platform, it’s very easy and convenient way for people to hire cars and also making money giving our their own cars.
Definitely recommend
Definitely recommend. Reasons:
1. Easy to book
2. Cheaper than almost all other car hire companies
3. Easy to pick up the car from a v convenient location.
4. Loads of cars to choose from
5. Protects the car owner and renter by ensuring photos (as many as you like) are taken pre and post rental - mitigates any potential argument.
6. I even extended my hire at 11pm the day before I was due to give the car back just using the app, simple!
One thing, just remember to bring a phone charger as my phone is olllld so opening/locking the car using my phone meant I needed battery. Also leaving GPS on rinsed by battery (but I switched GPS off when I was out the for day, and switched it back on when getting close to the car).

Customer service was great in recommending vehicles closest to my area and answering all the questions I had, special shout out to Daria and Aaminah in customer service who assisted me with my search. Will definitely use again👍

It was great to rent from Karshare. I use them for awhile already and it was just great experience so far. Easy to find cheaper cars and the support is also great.

Beware Prospective Owners Looking to Share Your Car
I was very optimistic about sharing my car through carshare based on the reviews and information on the website.
I was advised by one of their technicians to have a new key made so they could install their keyless technology (at my expense).
I've since posted this to them only to be informed by their fleet manager that they have suspended all new installations since March which no indication of when these are going to resume. I received no update of this, with their app advising me to post the key regardless.
Given the lack of communication from car share which has ultimately resulted in me wasting my time, it has been a very disappointing experience.

COST SCAM!
It has been disgusting that I keep getting charged for items that are not mine. £25 for “extended” time although I did everything the app said and 40 minutes before time ran out£25.75 for fuel even though when I filled it the app said I put in MORE fuel then when I picked it up and then now it says I only drove 110 miles (I drove 196) and the fuel tanks was half way (I have my receipt showing I put in £36 which is way over for 196 mile usage) and then charged ANOTHER £51 for a car I didn’t book by the same owner at the EXACT same time. As the only driver how would it be possible to drive TWO cars??’!! The car should have cost me £51 rental and Karshare has taken an ADDITIONAL £110 for costs that don’t exist!! DISGUSTING!!
I am since changing from a 1star to a 3 star. Although issues resolved the technology itself has a ways to go. I got a call from the company (after writing this post) and they will reimburse me the extra charges and a tiny credit (nor full amount of rental though) turns out it has to do with a faulty box in the car and wrong readings Shout out of gratitude to Aaminah the customer support agent for rectifying so quickly.
Always cars available near by and The app works much better than it used to had no problems all in all great experience thanks
last year hired a few cars and had problems with the app losing signal and not being able to start or get in but seems sorted now cars are usually clean and tidy all in all good experience

Great service, customer care always available which is important. The functionality of the app is great as well.
Lack of help with using a new model car was not helpful for me
I think it can work for some people. The app is very convenient to use and you can find cars closeby to you. However for a person like me, who needs a bit of help when renting a car this model - used by karshare is not helpful. You dont get to contact the owner. You dont get any help from Karshare itself on how to use the feautures of the car. I ended up paying more than 100 pounds but ended up riding it only for three miles because I was not sure whether I can drive the car without causing an accident. If I have gone to a private car rentals who provide inperson assistance like I did during my previous rentals then I would have surely used the car to the eligible 300 mile drive. So if you are like me who would need little bit assistance to start with when driving other model cars which is different to that of yours then hiring through Karshare will be waste of money.
No Customer Service........Success?
I have thought about this review all day but ultimately, I have decided that really the best test of any business is how they deal with a customer when something goes wrong. Using this as my measure I have sadly have to say that I rate Karshare as zero stars. In theory Karshare is a great concept. But a good concept amounts to nothing if ultimately you are not prepared to deal with a serious and caring way when things do not go to plan.
So my story is:
On 18th April I book a car using the Karshare app for £300 for 4 days only 5 minutes walk from my house to pick up at 8.30am.
On a cold Wednesday morning I get message to say where the car is actually located but this is some 3 miles from where I was told it would be according to the directions from the app. I ignore the directions and find the car in the road I understood it to be in the original description.
I spend 10 minutes with taking pictures and adjusting settings on my phone as directed by the app and then request that the car opens……..it does not.
So I spend an infuriating 10 minutes trying to get the app to unlock doors of the car and several minutes trying to find a number to call customer services.
Eventually I get through and an agent spends 10 minutes taking me through the app etc but eventually concludes that my phone does not work with the Karshare app. My phone was bought less than one month ago and runs Android 12. Shocked, I ask if they can find a solution such providing a physical key. This question is met by some surprise by the agent who asks “what if you lost the key?”. My thoughts are can you be serious what if:
1. I dropped my phone and broke it?
2. What if there was no signal?
3. What if it ran out of charge?
4. I could go on…..
The only solution offered is that I should use a different phone. I do not have access to different phone.
I ask that Karshare to resolve the problem (for instance get me the key to the car I have paid for) but I am told they can do nothing. I ask for an a manager to give me a call but am told that no one is available until 9am (this is meant to be a 24 hour service).
One hour later (I have returned home as it is too cold to wait in street by car) after no contact I call Karshare again and I am put through to Sara (her job title is Customer Success manager …….. oh the irony).
Sarah (Customer Success Manager) who tells me that she can do nothing as my phone is not compatible with Karshare’s software). I suggest that that they should have checked my phone at the time that they took £300 from my credit card on the very same app. So, I ask how Karshare are going to resolve this situation. Sarah (Customer Success Manager) says there is nothing she can do and she is “sorry”.
Let me suggest what Karshare could have done:
1. Provide me with a key
2. Provide me with a phone that would have worked with my phone.
3. Organise an alternative hire car
At 16:15 I receive a message from Sarah (Customer Success Manager but no email address or phone number provided) saying that again she is sorry but I should have read the small the print that says that Karshare’s software does not work with all phones (again I ask myself why did they not check my phone when I booked using their app, so simple to do). Also my phone is brand new!
So my next 4 days are ruined. The short holiday I was going to take my seriously ill son on to Dorset has not happened and it is to him they really need to offer an apology too.
Customer service is not about just saying sorry, it is really about understanding that a failure to deliver what you have promised requires more than a trite sorry and that actually you need to make an effort to makes things right when things go wrong.
Employ a Customer Service manager not a Customer Success Manger!
