Don't buy if there's any possibility you might want to return anything
I wanted to like this experience because the company is trying to be ethical and do the right thing. Unfortunately I had an absolute disaster of an experience that cost me over £1,000.
1) Firstly, the linen items I bought are just not great for the huge cost. They're very uneven, baggyish, and inconsistent in cut (I bought several of the same size). They're more expensive than Luca Faloni equivalent items but much lower quality. So I wanted to send nearly everything back. I'm used to dealing with companies that make returns very easy (which is why I bought more than I was likely to want to keep) but it wasn't the case here.
2) My first attempt to return the goods failed because of the courier company ParcelForce (not Kampos' fault). The second attempt, with Royal Mail, succeeded but Kampos were not in when the delivery occurred, and after waiting for a period Royal Mail returned the item to me. Kampos told me they received no notification from the postman and that I should have beck checking with Royal Mail and informing Kampos when the delivery had arrived. I feel that if Kampos expect customers to be proactive in the returns process they should let them know in advance, rather than unsympathetically telling them that it was their own fault.
3) Kampos didn't know how to claim for reduced customs duties – “preferential origin” – which companies in the EU are entitled to when selling goods in the UK. They eventually gave up and generously offered to pay the entire customs duty at the higher price. However when I returned the good I had to pay the customs duties back – £359. I feel I should have at least been charged the "preferential origin" tax rate. It's not my fault they didn't know how to fill in the customs duty forms correctly.
I feel bad criticising an ethical company but I want to prevent others going through the very expensive debacle that I went through.
I will say that they were very responsive to all the emails I sent, and did spend significant time trying to help, which is why I am giving them three stars and not one.
