Hosting Ireland managed to turn what should have been a routine spam handling event into what appears to be a serious mailbox integrity failure. After our email account was flagged for outbound spam, which we accepted and understood, we expected temporary restrictions, suspension, rate limiting, or some form of investigation. What we did not expect was to log in and find that roughly six months of historical sent mail had disappeared immediately after the account was restricted. The timing of this is what makes it especially concerning.

This was not user error. No one deleted these emails. No purge was initiated, no mailbox cleanup rules existed, and no local mail client retention policy was in place that could explain a sudden and selective loss of historical sent data. Yet the immediate response from Hosting Ireland was to insist that we must have deleted them ourselves.

From a technical standpoint, that explanation made very little sense. The issue only appeared after the account was flagged and locked, which strongly suggests something happened during or after their anti-spam enforcement process. Whether this was a mailbox index corruption issue, an IMAP folder state inconsistency, a backend mailstore rollback, or some kind of server-side automation affecting mailbox metadata, it was clearly something that warranted investigation rather than immediate blame shifting.

What made the experience significantly worse was the complete lack of technical competence from support. IMAP activity, deletion events, folder state changes, or checking whether any backend processes had affected mailbox consistency during the restriction, the response was essentially to dismiss the issue and repeatedly claim that we had deleted the data ourselves. It felt like there was no real understanding of mailbox architecture, synchronization behaviour, or even basic forensic troubleshooting.

To make matters worse, after what appears to have been a provider side issue that coincided exactly with their spam flagging action, they then had the audacity to charge us to restore the missing emails (which hasn’t commenced yet). Charging a customer to recover data that disappeared immediately after an account level intervention by the provider is extremely difficult to justify.

If your business depends on email continuity, mailbox integrity, and support staff who can actually investigate technical issues rather than defaulting to blame, this was an incredibly poor experience. An account being flagged for spam is one issue. Historical sent mail disappearing immediately afterwards, followed by denial, poor technical handling, and a paid restore request, is something far more concerning. Very disappointing.

Done the complete opposite to what me the customer asked them to do .
Disappointed to say the least with hosting Ireland they have gone down hill in the last 2/3 years .
I have lots of domain names paid for some till the end of 2026 and some guy called Aaron notified me today that he cancelled all 70 domain names .
Not acceptable .

They billed me for years without providing a service. I'm not very familiar with online hosting and how it all works but these guys really take advantage of that. They billed me monthly for a service they didn't actually provide. Of course their terms and conditions have it all wrapped up and protect them. I don't know how they sleep at night.

I would be very careful using Hosting Ireland. My experience has been extremely frustrating.

I had an issue involving a domain name change/registration process. I provided the information requested, but the ticket appears to have been closed without the matter being resolved. The domain is now in an expired/redemption status, and I am being told I may have to pay a large fee to fix it.

I also spoke with a support agent named Declan, and the call was very poor. I did not feel I was given a fair chance to explain the issue, and the tone of the call was angry and unhelpful.

At this stage I am trying to get written clarification on what happened, why the ticket was closed, and why I am being asked to pay more when the original process was not completed.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend them.

I've been a customer for over 10 years, but transferring domains out has proven unnecessarily complicated. While EPP codes should be easily accessible via a simple link click, this doesn't work for all domains. Instead, you're forced to create support tickets and submit multiple requests. It feels like a deliberate tactic to discourage customers from moving to more affordable providers. Their .ie domain pricing is particularly excessive, which is why I'm looking elsewhere.

Only just signed up with them, I'm having so much trouble trying to link domain to my website, communication is very poor, they take days to respond, then they ask you the same thing that they previously asked, so you repeat what you've already told them and give information that you have already provided. I'm just going round in circles here, literally feel like bouncing my head off of a brick wall (not literally). I feel like I've made a massive mistake choosing hosting Ireland.
