Occre 1/24 Scale Bounty Launch Model Kit Small in size but tied to one of the most remarkable survival stories in maritime history, this 1/24 scale kit recreates the open launch in which William Bligh and 18 loyal crewmen were cast adrift following the infamous mutiny on HMS Bounty. With 462 parts and a finished length of 435mm, Occre's detailed wooden model offers an accessible introduction to traditional boat building with plenty of fine detail to enjoy. ABOUT THE KIT: Occre's Bounty Launch recreates the small open boat used by Bligh and his men after the mutiny of 1789. Its large 1/24 scale allows the launch's wooden construction, interior arrangement, fittings and sailing equipment to be reproduced in impressive detail. Fine hardwoods of different species are used throughout the model, selected according to the structural, planking and finishing requirements of each component. Precision laser-cut wooden sheets help provide an accurate fit, while high-precision photo-etched brass and Zamak castings reproduce the smaller fittings and finer details. Cotton is used for the sail, rigging threads and other textile elements. The completed model measures 435mm long, 100mm wide and 260mm high, creating a substantial representation of the launch despite the relatively compact size of the original vessel. Containing 462 parts and requiring an estimated 120 hours to complete, Occre rates the Bounty Launch as Beginner / Level 1. Its open hull and relatively straightforward rig make it a particularly appealing choice for modellers taking their first steps into wooden boat building. Led by Fletcher Christian, the mutineers seized control of the ship and forced Lieutenant William Bligh and 18 loyal members of his crew into Bounty's open launch. The 19 men were left with only limited provisions and navigational equipment, yet Bligh succeeded in completing an extraordinary open-boat voyage across approximately 5,800 kilometres of the Pacific. After an unsuccessful attempt to obtain supplies on Tofua, where crewman John Norton was killed, Bligh chose to make for the Dutch settlement of Kupang on Timor rather than risk landing on other islands along the way. Relying on his navigational skill and with the heavily laden open boat exposed to extreme weather, hunger and exhaustion, Bligh guided the surviving men to Timor. They arrived on 14th June 1789, 47 days after being cast adrift from Bounty. The remarkable voyage established Bligh's reputation as an exceptionally capable navigator and remains one of the most celebrated feats of survival and open-boat navigation in maritime history.
