HJA are a long established firm of solicitors, and had provided assistance over many years for my late parents. They were named as joint executor on my father’s will, and as such they prepared, on my behalf, the application to HMRC for the Grant of Probate. The partner at HJA with whom I worked, was Sarah Conner, and I am delighted to recommend her. She was friendly, personable, and very knowledgeable about the entire process. It was a relief to know that I was in such experienced hands and that she was taking care of the huge administrative burden efficiently and competently. I found it particularly reassuring knowing that I could trust HJA and Sarah, to ensure that my application would be in full compliance of, what were at times, rather complicated HMRC rules.

I live in the USA, which added a layer of complexity regarding additional tax requirements. Whenever I had questions (and I had a lot), Sarah was patient in explaining the process and providing guidance. When in doubt, (rarely), she was prompt and resourceful in seeking additional input, for example setting up a consultation with a London based firm specializing in US/UK taxes to provide specific advice. All very helpful!

Very negative experience, unhelpful, unsupportive, completely lacking in any empathy whatsoever and grossly unprofessional. Don't keep their word, don't keep their promises. Gives the impression on their website that they can handle complicated disrepair and human rights cases, but when it came to the crunch they flat out refused to help a three-year-old child exposed to asbestos by the council. Just another company out for a quick easy buck. Absolutely not recommended.

HJA were brilliant from the start, my first solicitor Kerry was very good and made sure I had all the right and important evidence to help support my case, she also gave me her phone number so she was always just a phone call away when I had questions or needed something. I then had Sean in crown court and he was amazing too I was apprehensive at first about changing half way through but I had the right person and trusted the process. I instructed Graeme Hydari and his team at Hodge Jones & Allen for a criminal matter at Staines Magistrates' Court in 2021. My experience was devastating due to fundamental procedural errors regarding critical expert evidence.

My defence relied on an expert report from a world-leading professor at Cambridge University, which diagnosed me with Autism and explained my lack of malicious intent. Instead of serving this vital report correctly as Expert Evidence under Criminal Procedure Rules Part 19, Mr. Hydari’s team served it as a Section 9 Lay Witness Statement (a mechanism for uncontested facts).

Furthermore, despite knowing the trial date well in advance, they served this notice only 5 days before trial, breaching the statutory 7-day objection period.

At trial, the prosecutor accepted the diagnosis but successfully objected to the report’s admission because of this incorrect and late filing. Consequently, the expert evidence regarding my intent was excluded, and I was convicted. My solicitor made no attempt to adjourn or rectify this error at court.

I have documented proof of these filing errors from their own correspondence. If you have a complex case involving mental health or expert evidence, I cannot recommend this firm. Their negligence in handling basic criminal procedure stripped me of my primary defence.
