It was truly the best experience. I met amazing people, the staff was so welcoming and the house felt like home. The hospital and the mentors were so well picked. I hope to go back again soon! I would recommend it to everyone.

I absolutely LOVED my time with Global Pre Meds. Everything about it was fantastic, especially the people. I know I will keep in touch with them for years to come, and despite living on opposite sides of the world, I am visiting many of the friends I made this spring. Beyond grateful Global Pre Meds brought us all together :)

This was the most amazing experience of my life. The trip was extremely organized and the staff was very friendly. The housing was clean and safe. The food was excellent!! The doctors that I was assigned to were awesome they explained everything step by step. The up close exposure to the ER and surgeries was incredible. I was able to shadow over 30 surgeries and found a love for orthopedics. I met students from all over the world and we became lifelong friends. The excursions were so much fun and I absolutely loved the Dominican Republic and can see myself living there one day. For now I am so grateful for the experience and I have confirmed my career path as a Physician Assistant in the Orthopedic surgery department. Thank you Gap Medics!!

My global premeds (gap medics) experience was nothing short of incredible. The hospital exposure, the social time and the opportunity to interact with people from all around the world was invaluable and has allowed me to enhance my application to university for midwifery. The experience within the hospital was eye opening and made me realise the positives and superior health service which constantly gets criticised in the UK. The activities which I had the opportunity to participate in in my free time included ATV driving and boat trips to picturesque beaches which you would believe had been photoshopped if you were not there yourself. The overall experience was amazing and I would go again in a heartbeat. If you are considering going and need some reassurance that it is worth it, then I can’t recommend it more and would beg you to go and have the fantastic experience which I had!

This was one of the best experiences of my life and has made me definitely want to pursue a medical career. the staff at both the house and the hospital always made us feel so welcome and the things we saw within the hospital as well as the activities planned for us to do afterwards were absolutely amazing!
I did the under 18 placement in La Romana and would definitely look at doing another again in a couple years, would totally recommend!

I'm 17 and spent 3 weeks in Pula, Croatia with Gap Medics in the placements of neurology, ENT, and vascular surgery. I saw everything from our doctors doing rounds and diagnosing patients to putting on surgical scrubs and watching a leg amputation. This trip was so eye opening to me and allowed me to narrow down what I want to do and what I don't want to do in my dream career in medicine. Along with the amazing experience in the hospital I also made life long friends from all around the world and couldn't have asked to be surrounded by better people, including the whole staff at the house. If you're hesitant about doing this program, don't be. I don't know of a better opportunity to shadow real doctors while being with so many amazing people than Gap Medics.

My placement with GapMedics in Croatia was absolutely fantastic - I was able to shadow a vascular surgeon and see amputations, a lung operation, a mastectomy and others - all of which are operations that would be nigh on impossible for a high school student to shadow in Scotland. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, constantly making sure that everything ran smoothly from the accomodation to the placement to external activities. Overall, I highly recommend this experience to anyone wishing to go to medical school in the future.

My placement in the public hospital allowed me to see surgeries, among other things, that I would never have seen otherwise. As part of the Gap Medics program, we were able to scrub in on almost any procedure. The mentors were there to answer any question you had, and to challenge you to learn more about what was being done. During my trip, I learned a lot about medicine - from the minute details of a surgery, to the healthcare corruption that the Dominican Republic as a whole. I am now thinking of pursing medical careers that I didn't consider as options before.

This was the single most life changing experience I have ever had. From the unreal opportunities in medicine to the amazing people I met and incredible connections I formed, this truly was the trip of a lifetime and I would do again a million times over. There is not enough praise in the world to describe how incredible gap medics is and how much I loved my placement.

I had the most amazing experience in the Under 18 program in La Romana with GapMedics. We were in the hospital each day from 8am-1pm and in the afternoons, there were planned trips we were welcome to participate in at extremely reasonable costs. In the hospital, we were exposed to a variety of different surgeries and procedures.
The GapMedics staff at the house were extremely helpful, welcoming, and supportive. Although it can be quite an expensive trip if you stay for multiple weeks, it was a once in a lifetime experience which has solidified my passion for the medical field and a trip I will always remember.

Worth every cent!

This is a perfect way to gain experience in healthcare. I spent 3 weeks in Pula, Croatia rotating between three different departments; Thoracic, Gastrointestinal and E.N.T. The doctors were fantastic and engaged with all students to make sure we were properly understanding the ins and outs of medical life and practice.

I also want to thank those who hosted me upon my arrival; Nikolina especially for teaching Croatian :).

A brilliant way to gain healthcare experience and meet new people. The staff were all very friendly both in the UK and in La Romana in the Dominican Republic.

To sum it all up, my trip with Gap Medics was nothing short of life changing. As soon as I landed at the airport, Edwin was there to take care of me and to make me feel comfortable. Little did I know that two weeks later I’d have to hold back tears when saying good bye to him. Every single person I met on my trip became a close friend. You really do create your own little Gap Medics family. The Gap Medics staff are always available to talk, hang out with, and ask questions to. They were even there after a challenging day at the hospital. Alicia was there to give hugs and offer words of wisdom, which helped me to process my experience in a constructive manor.

Now, I’m making an entirely separate paragraph just for the food: Santos is magical. Let me just say that. As a gluten free vegan, I’m not the easiest student to cook for. But every day there were options upon options for me and not once did I get sick! The cuisine is absolutely divine and Santos is so very sweet.

As for the hospital placement, you really do learn so much from your mentor and all of the other hospital staff. Questions are always encouraged and answered to their best ability. I’ve come away from the midwifery placement with my fire for the career reignited, all thanks to Gap Medics.

If you’re considering going on a trip with Gap Medics, I can not recommend them highly enough. Definitely brush up on your Spanish!They’re always testing you and keeping you on your toes.

Go into it with an open mind and an open heart and get ready to have the time of your life!

A life changing experience, shadowing doctors and midwives in the Dominican Republic, something that I will never forget!!! The procedures I have seen and opportunities I have been given would not be available in the UK. This really is a once in a life time trip for anyone who wants to be a midwife.
Gap Medics provided an amazing programme. The house is lovely with friendly, helpful staff who made it like a home from home. The hospital placement was eye opening but the births made it special and the mentors were inspirational.
Overall, well worth it and I hope to do it again sometime!!!!!!

Gap Medics Croatia
I had a great experience with Gap Medics in Croatia, I was there for three weeks. I was able to learn and see so much. My mentors were great and I loved my placements. Everyone involved in the company made me feel comfortable leading up to my trip and when I was there. It was a great experience to do during my gap year and confirmed my decision on wanting to go to nursing school.

My placement with Gap Medics was probably one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had! I went to La Romana, Dominican Republic and all of the staff were super friendly. All I can say is that if anyone is thinking about signing up for a placement, it’s 100% worth it! I made lifelong friends and it solidified my passion for medicine. I hope to plan another trip with Gap Medics in the near future :)

My time with GapMedics was incredible! Everything ran seamlessly, the staff were incredibly helpful and I gained some fantastic experience in both neurology and orthopaedics.

Gap Medics has been the best experience in my life so far. I have always wanted to become a midwife. Travelling to the Dominican Republic, being in the hospital, seeing multiple natural births and c-sections I have come to realise that this is the career for me. Having the best mentor who helped me understand everything that was going on also help enormously.

The staff in the hospital and the house were so helpful, friendly and welcoming. The house itself was beautiful. Spacious, always clean with a huge swimming pool. The food was excellent. A different meal every night and a huge range of foods for breakfast and lunch.

I have made friends for life with the other students as well as the staff. I recommend Gap Medics to anyone who is considering it. I've had amazing experiences in the hospital as well as outside if it. The beaches are beautiful, the people are friendly and I will never forget my time in the Dominican Republic.
