Misleading product listing and poor customer service
Misleading product listing and disappointing customer service
I purchased a “Bedding Day French Linen” bed set from FortyTwo for S$110 including delivery.
The problem is that nowhere in the product listing was it clearly disclosed that the product was a cotton blend. This is a fundamental piece of information when someone is deciding whether to purchase a linen product.
After raising the issue, instead of acknowledging that the material composition was not clearly disclosed, FortyTwo's response was essentially to tell me that the listing was “accurate” because it never explicitly claimed to be “100% pure linen”.
That response completely misses the point.
If a product is marketed as a “French Linen” bed set but contains cotton, the composition should be clearly and prominently disclosed to the customer. A consumer should not have to discover the actual composition only after purchasing and washing the product.
What makes this even more frustrating is that I have already spent considerable time going back and forth with customer service. I initially asked for a reasonable 50% refund rather than a full return. They refused to provide that or waive the delivery charges.
They are now offering a full return and refund as a “special exception” because the item has been washed, but this framing is frustrating because the washing occurred before I became aware of the issue. I purchased the product based on the information presented on the listing.
I have provided evidence of the original listing to support my complaint.
The response from FortyTwo feels less like an attempt to take responsibility for an unclear product description and more like an attempt to shift the blame onto the customer.
Don't assume that the marketing description tells you the complete material composition.
The handling of this complaint has been far more disappointing than the original product issue.
1/5 — Poor product disclosure and an even more disappointing customer-service experience.
