Tuotteen tiedot

‘This was a magic of words, a magic of true speaking.’
  1. Neil Gaiman
Celebrated across the world for its adventure, its wisdom and its unforgettable characters, the Earthsea series has inspired readers and writers since the release of A Wizard of Earthsea in 1968. The fourth volume, Tehanu, sees legendary writer Ursula K. Le Guin introduce new heroes and new threats, while Ged faces perhaps the hardest challenge of his life. Series artist David Lupton worked with Le Guin at the outset of the series to create a Ged and an Earthsea that stayed true to the author’s vision. This beautiful collector’s edition features seven spellbinding colour images and a perceptive afterword by Le Guin herself, revealing her own thoughts on this remarkable chapter in the Earthsea series. The endpapers are printed with maps and the exquisite binding features a stirring illustration of Tenar and the dragon Kalessin, the eerie vapour of Kalessin’s flames blocked in shimmering silver foil.See the Folio Le Guin collection here.

Every book I get from the Folio Society is a treasure. When I opened one when I was a child, it was always such a magical experience, I want to pass that feeling on to my child.

Tehanu is a very different work than the rest of the volumes in this series. Le Guin did something very unique in the realm of fantasy with this work. She flattened the dramatic range so that magic and heightened scenes are on the same level as everyday mundane activities. The language dealing with magic and violence is reduced to a minimum, and the language dealing with normal everyday activities is increased. The art work is gorgeous and totally supports the main theme of this very unique story: the raising of a very special and damaged little girl.

With clear text and excellent illustrations, this is a worthy successor to the Folio editions of Le Guin's earlier Earthsea books. I'm glad to have this series.

Another beautiful edition in the Earthsea series. Still a little miffed that my Wizard of Earthsea is a different size than recent editions. It's like being penalised for being a loyal customer. Maybe a colled short stories next?
