Focused is the PAYE Umbrella of choice for hundreds of agencies across the UK and was voted Best Umbrella Company (500 - 1,000 clients) at The Contracting Awards 2024 and Best Umbrella Company (1000-3000 clients) at The Contracting Awards 2026. Our brand is well known in the contracting sector representing both quality of service and compliance.
Our teams of ex-recruitment professionals and qualified payroll staff ensure that our umbrella employees, limited company directors and agency clients are provided with intelligent advice and forward thinking solutions to their contracting needs. Despite our substantial growth in the market we have retained the small company service mentality ensuring that every relationship is valued and nurtured.
We are proud to have secured preferred, approved or sole supplier status with the UK’s leading recruitment agencies. This means that we have passed their extensive due diligence tests and can therefore work with all candidates, contractors and consultants within those agencies, providing our umbrella or limited company solutions.
Our team of Account Managers cover the whole of the UK including our core areas of London, the Home Counties, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff, Newcastle and the surrounding areas.
We are confident that our solutions are competitive, attractive to contractors, simple for agencies and 100% compliant.

Great umbrella company
I needed to choose an umbrella company for my last work assignment and was very glad to have selected Focused. Their fees are very reasonable and everything was very efficient and easy to navigate.

Best umbrella company
I was new to working under an umbrella company and felt like a deer in the headlights! Focused was the only umbrella company (out of all the ones I contacted) that took time to answer all my questions and at the same time did not make me feel pressured to go with them. They were also super patient when I asked them to 'dumb down' the answers to my questions so I could fully understand everything including costs, fees, take home pay etc before I made a decision. Once I signed up with them it was always a positive experience. If I ever had questions someone was always available and I received excellent service every time. I would highly recommend them and if I ever go through an umbrella company again I will definitely go back to them.

I joined as an umbrella employee for a couple of months due to having a short term freelance contract. From the moment I joined Focused they were very efficient, from the initial registration to payments and payslips, and queries being replied to within a few hours.

Expenses Nightmare
When I first joined this company, I was genuinely impressed. Their website was slick, easy to use, and raising expense claims felt effortless. I was so impressed, in fact, that I recommended them to a colleague - a decision I now deeply regret.
What followed was nothing short of frustrating. They made it almost impossible for my colleague to process simple meal expenses, rejecting claims for items that had already been approved in advance.
Recently, I’ve found myself facing the same nonsense - having legitimate evening meal claims questioned despite being well within my daily allowance and providing full documentation.
This isn’t about fair checks and balances - it feels like they’re more concerned with covering themselves against a potential HMRC audit than supporting honest customers.
If you’re looking for a smooth, hassle-free expenses system, avoid this company. What starts out looking good quickly turns into a bureaucratic headache.

Hi Dominic,
We appreciate you taking time to share your feedback and we’re sorry to hear about your frustrations with the expenses process, this isn’t the experience we want for our umbrella employees.
Our intention is always to make managing expenses as smooth as possible while ensuring complete compliance with HMRC guidelines, which dictates eligibility of expenses. That said, we appreciate this could have been communicated clearer in your case, and we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused both you and your colleague.
We’d really like the chance to look into this further and review the decisions around your claims. Our Operations Manager has reached out to you directly to discuss your comments in detail and reach a resolution.
Thank you again for raising this, your feedback helps us improve both our processes and the service we deliver.
