I hate the new search result page
I hate the new search results page where you can only see 1 at a time now. Each picture is huge on my screen. I'm not going to spend hours looking at each listing where before I could see many on my screen at a time.

We’re sorry to hear you don’t like the recent change. The change moved from showing three results on screen in a grid view to a list view. We still show the same number of results per page, which is 12.
You can search and filter your results to ensure you’re seeing what you want immediately, rather than browsing through all the results.
This most recent change enabled us to release a whole bunch of features which will help listers such as yourself stand out and get enquiries. This includes bigger and differentiated search result tiles to ensure potential flatmates don’t miss your listing, automatic rotation of listing tiles to the top of search results to ensure your listing continues to get exposure and image carousels in search results so seekers can get a feel for your listing.
We don’t make these changes lightly and ensure changes we make improve the performance of the site. While rolling out the new experience our data showed it performed better for enquiries, which we’re sure you can appreciate is a great result.

New search result page is a nightmare!
They just change the new search result page where only 1 is displayed at a time thus the picture takes up 1/2 of my screen. The old system is 1000x better where you could see a list of 3 at a time. It has made my searching a total nightmare and I can't use this site anymore. The person that made this insane change at FM, should be fired!

Flatmates.com.au has introduced a new default search result called ‘Featured” which allows upgraded listings to be displayed first and will differentiate them from free members on our platform. We wanted to give upgraded members more value for their plan and to help them stand out on Flatmates.com.au.
Your screen may look different, as now upgraded members will appear as “premier listings” with enlarged listing tiles in search results on the first couple of pages, while free members will have their listings displayed slightly smaller and on later pages.
Users may filter or re-sort search results in which case listings that match that search query will rank first. Flatmates.com.au is always striving to improve and to ensure our marketplace remains the best place for share accommodation in Australia. We’re constantly listening to our members and asking for their input in such improvements. For a long time, our paid users have been asking for better value for their plans and we believe this strikes a balance between paid listings and free listings.

Great customer service and always responding to all my questions promptly.
Understanding clients enquiries and needs. I will Highly Recommend Flatemates.com.au and also the services you provide to property owners like myself. Keeping our information private , so we can find the suitable candidate to lease the room which gives us a piece of mind. I travel frequently due to work commitments away alot and my property is left alone so this is a great site to find a person to lease the room but realistically they have the entire home to themselves just my master bedroom is not available.
I have had such beautyful people so respectful , polite and looked after my house as if it was their own and I thank Flatmates Au for that!!!

Flatemets.com.au Need to make people more punctual on this dam website. 2nd time around its absolutely ridiculous and just like last time. No one responds OR they're away but their flatemates find someone. People need to have more responsibility on this site and Flatemates need to enforce it. Its common bloody courtesy. I hope there is not a 3rd time anytime soon.

Thanks for your review. We're sorry you didn't enjoy your time with us and we can understand how frustrating it can be when members do not reply to messages. This is why we introduced our response rate which marks members out of 100%. The closer a member's rate to 100%, the more likely they are to reply.
We also deactivate accounts from our platform that have been inactivate for more than 7 days, so that members such as yourself, aren't messaging accounts with listings that have already been filled.

Highly Recommended
Claudia and all the staff in the Customer Service Team have always been super friendly and supportive. Great in depth advise that makes an overall easy to use experience both in finding a room as a Tenant and advertising as a Landlord. Highly recommended and a large pool of ads to work with to find the best match.

This platform is a joke. All the 4-5 star reviews are from Bob, Jane or someone%20 very interesting. Charge you to message people with no guarantee of a reply. When you message someone with a 100% response rate and they don’t reply their response rate stays at 100%. Filled with 3rd party ads. Hive property is a real estate renting to students they don’t own or live at the property. Female only option but no male only? Sexist? Compete scam

Flatmates.com.au is a free platform but we do have a number of paid upgrades members can choose from to help quicken up their search. On a free account you can contact any listing on the site that is Free to Message, you can also reply to all messages received. The majority of listings on our site are Free to Message, but there will be some Early Bird listings (free) that will require an upgrade to contact for the first 14 days.
The response rate is the percentage of conversations you have responded to over the past 30 days and new messages are given a grace period of 24hours before they are counted in your response rate. You can read more about that here https://flatmates.com.au/info/message-response-rate
We are a platform that caters to all so this means you will find some professional users on our site who run multiple share houses and use our platform to advertise their properties.
We have multiple filters on the site you can choose from regarding flatmate preferences. Properties can put filters on to only have "male" or "female" flatmates, "couples" or they can use the filter "anyone welcome."

You use to be able to update your ad…
You use to be able to update your ad and be able to go to the top of page 1 but not anymore. Even if you pay, your ad won't be on page 1 but near the last couple pages. I'm lucky to receive a couple messages within a week compare to in the past, I would receive more than a couple a day. I get 10x more messages on Gumtree and Flatmatefinder where I won't be using Flatmates ever again! The changes are a nightmare and makes Flatmates unusable for finding tenants. The people at Flatmates seriously don't care where this COVID-19 pandemic has been a nightmare for us landlords. These changes are PURE EVIL!!

The default search results page is "Featured", which is where paid listings will show above free listings. We recently updated our search algorithm to also include our standard plans as well as the previous Boost plan. Users can still filter or re-sort search results in which case listings that match that search query will rank first regardless of plan type.

I had no luck with this site that chargers you when it's the landlord that should be charged. It's kind of pricey cause I'm a student. I had better luck on Gumtree.

Flatmates is a site that can be used for free, whether you're listing a property or looking for one.
Not everyone who uses our site are landlords, as many people are listing rooms in homes they're renting and need to share the cost. For this reason, we allow people to list for free and those who wish to pay to add certain benefits such as ranking and immediate contact can.
On a free account you can contact any listing on the site that is Free to Message, you can also reply to all messages received. The majority of listings on our site are Free to Message, but there will be some Early Bird listings (free) that will require an upgrade to contact for the first 14 days.

Super frustrating interface, definitely not made for "Flatmates"
Pretty frustrating site. You can't save searches; you can't hide listings you've looked at previously. You can't filter for nearly enough things (this is an Australian site and you can't filter for Air Conditioning!). You can't really build a decent profile, you can't easily navigate their map design, and the design is bloated and takes up way too much screen space. FlatmateFinders is a way better design, but Flatmates.com has used their market position and money to market better and now has all the properties... and none of the useful interface. It's a damn shame I have to use this site as it's a huge pain in the rear.
Edit: Look at their reply- it's friendly enough boilerplate, but look at what it reveals. Flatmates.com thinks 'saving a search' means being able to enter the same search terms, but don't consider being able to favorite/hide places within a specific search criteria, or being able to add/edit filters within a search you've already conducted. Being able to filter for AC is a 'feature' that they need to send to their design team to consider - when it should be a *basic* search filter.
Honestly, the more I use this site the more garbage I find. Do they do ANY user testing at all?

You are able to save a search once you have actioned it. The Save Search button will appear at the top of the search results page you're viewing. We also show your three most recent searches under the search section (which sits under your saved search). You're also able to favourite places you like, which appear under your Shortlist. At this stage we don't have the ability to remove listings you don't like.
While we don't have a specific search filter for Air Conditioning yet, you can use the key word search under filters to find listings that include Air Conditioning. We've also sent your suggestion to have a specific filter to our design and product people.
With regards to our map design, we have a new one coming! Currently, the design is being rolled out incrementally through a beta and will feature a full page map that will make it easier to search. We hope this is live for everyone by the end of the month.

No one came!!!
I was registered on Flat mates for several months. In that time I had one person request to have a look & one person I wrote to asking if they has seen my ad. Both were to come have a look but seemed to not have time to look.
Oh yes we will come as I communicated a few times but neither did arrange to come. It was disappointing.
I then removed my advertisement .

I've been using Flatmates for a couple of weeks where just before the 14 days is over, they banned my account for no reason. I have sent emails without any reply. Looks like the 1 star reviews are correct here.

Where is the Negative 5 star?!
When the area I'm wanting to move to is in a current crisis this website does not benefit those who genuinely seek somewhere to live. I sent so many messages to a whole lot of listings and not one reply. This website needs to be seriously looked at and should be ashamed of themselves for letting down the communities and leaving those legit home seekers out to suffer.
