ESB workers deserve credit after these horrific storms.

ESB Networks deserve credit for their very hard work after these storms. They restored homes in a little town in Co Laois fairly quickly. Well done lads. Please folks give credit where credit is due to these wonderful workers, they are doing their very best under pressure for our communities. 👏

Call out charge

I phoned ESB in relation to a call out charge received. The call was made during the cold weather in November where power had cut off. I was in panic as I have a new baby and things are really tough at the moment. I couldn’t possibly take any chance of no heating and electricity with a baby less than a month old. No work was carried out and asked if possible that the charge could be waived. ESB insisted on the charge €167. The lady who phoned me had spoke in a snappy passive aggressive tone and I felt very intimidated. She made me feel that what I did was wrong and I’m being punished by being charged. ESB lack empathy and understanding. The call was intended for ensuring my baby is warm. Being charged is very cruel and mean.

Horrible company to deal with

Horrible company to deal with, customer service is not for for purpose, and they don’t care anyway it seems. €50 was taken From my account 6 weeks ago at an EV charge point at Barak Obama Plaza,
For a charge I didn’t use, I’ve made numerous phone calls and sent emails and still have not got my money refunded, The reply I got weeks ago was it was being investigated by head office, I’ve heard nothing and had to make a phone calls to they’re worse than useless customer service, and still got no help or information except that they will send it to head office the usual answer, I’m absolutely disgusted and insulted at this time and I’m considering taking it further, Is there anyone else out there in a similar situation,
I mean €50 is €50 at the end, it’s tantamount to theft, in my opinion

Even if they cause you to be unable to cease charging, they will make no exceptions in applying €0.50 per MINUTE.
They can take up to 20 minutes to answer your call as their agent is busy.

Ok,EV owners be very aware of the extortionate cost of charging your vehicle at these stations in business parks and other areas.I charged my EV for 1 hour and it cost me just under 45eu.A total rip off!
Never ever again.
And they want to encourage people change to electric??I should add that the company in question is esbcars and I called them today but got no satisfaction at all,the person telling me after 45 minutes it costs 50c every minute after this time.
Rip off ireland again

Company run by tinkers. Be careful as they sign you up to a contract without you knowing and change a monthly fee . They tried this with me for charging up once but I refused to pay them and they can't do a thing about it . Don't pay these con artists

Smart meter put in under false pretence

If I could give them a minus star I would. I sent them an email refusing consent for smart meter on 13/03/24. They acknowledge the refusal and take my MPRN off list to install smart meters. The current meter started beeping over the following 2 weeks (for first time in my 3 years living in house?) so landlady got an electrician in. He said it was an Esb job. Landlady rings up Esb and they ask for my MPRN and I give it. Then they arrive and tell landlady the current meter is very dangerous and would go on fire. They don't mention they are putting a smart meter in. Despite my prior refusal of consent they went and put the Smart meter in. I will be taking them to court unless they remove said smart meter and replace it with an analogue like they do in other countries. The analogue meters are available online so them saying in their acknowledgement they only have stock of smart meters is a cop out. My recent bill is also much higher than Winter so they will not receive a cent out of me until they remedy this situation.

Beware of overcharging

Our first experience charging our eV on the esb network was pretty abysmal. Brand new charging station and we couldn't get it to work. First, neither the pre-pay app nor the instructions on the station are intuitive. Forget about that the station was delivering instructions in French in Ireland!

A second car came and had the same issues so he called customer service immediately. It turns out the charging station had not been activated and therefore was not on their system. After we gave esb their charging station ID number, it finally appeared in the app. And we had been trying to use the app by tapping the charging station but you actually have to use the app to select the charging station you are at. Since it wasn't activated, it didn't show up in the app as a selection.

So we finally were able to connect to a supposedly fast charger. We kept an eye on the car app which tells us how full the battery is. When it reached 98% more than an hour later, I walked over and disconnected the cable right away.

We were charged €42.18 for 53.033 kWh which works out to €0.79 per kWh not the stated €0.57. We have issued a complaint and surmise that they charged us for overstaying at 0.50/min when it took that long to reach full charge.

esb installed but did not activate their charging station. It is clearly not calibrated for fast charging. We were probably the first to use this station and we don't know how long it has been there. They charged us for overstay inappropriately before the battery was full. We happen to have very large battery capacity and the limit of 45 minutes charge time is probably for older and more obsolete eVs. Not happy!!!

Got PV panels end of March 2024

Got PV panels end of March 2024. ESB network uploaded the MC6 form the 13th of May 2024. I have produced 700kw during this time and Electric Ireland won't pay it back to me. Why ESB took so long to send this form to EI??
ESB wasted my money!

Do not use this company at all

Do not use this company at all. Not only their chargers don’t work. They don’t let you know until you make the payment and then they take the money and they don’t EVEN REFUND you.
I have phone multiple times and email my bank details ( why do I have to do this? ).

Both my parents died and I contacted ESB to ask the ESB staff to ask if they could leave the electricity on while we exchanged contracts on the house we sold,(the account was in credit)they made a fuss and where just horrible and refused,saying I had to open a new account even it was 2 weeks,they showed no sympathy and anyone I spoke to was aggressive and unprofessional

Terrible service . No working Chademo chargers in Belfast today. The few available are all out of order. I drove round for hours. Shocked at the inept service. Just do not rely on this company.

ESB Connect infrastructure is Rubbish

ESB Connect infrastructure is absolutely dreadful. Travelled to Cork at the weekend. One of the chargers at Corbett's in Ferry was not working. The slow one was operational but it would not recognise my Ecar Connect card. Rang for assistance and the response was "nothing we can do about that'. I had to get another driver to use his card to allow me top up for 15 minutes and then had to Revolut him the money. One and a half hours for a 15 minute top up. On the return journey, pulled into Portlaoise Plaza. There are four charges and room for three cars? The only available charger was the 43KW one which was not working. There was no error message but it would just not charge. Three other drivers tried the same charger and the same result. I phoned ESB and was left hanging for 20 minutes and no response. I eventually grabbed a top up from one of the other chargers when it became available. Two hours later I had got my 15 mins top up. There were now four other frustrated drivers pulling their hair out trying to deal with the nonsense. - absolutely rubbish.

Appalling Customer Service from ESBev Cars…

I’m writing this blog complaining about the terrible customer service provided by the ESB Networks for EV cars. ESB have contracted the Customer Complaints work out to a company based in Cork and I’d have to say certain individuals in this company are so unhelpful it’s unbelievable.

ESB provide a service where you can use a “Pay as you Go” system if you don’t have an account with their company. The systems never work and no matter how many times I have advised them of same it’s never sorted. They keep saying they’ll log my complaint and advise the engineers but nothing is ever done.

I had an incident at the back end of August where I had to wait three hours for the charging machines to work and I wrote to the customer complaints section. I received a reply from a guy known as Mr McCarthy and it had to be the most unprofessional reply a customer could receive. I have now christened him Mr “Scarlett Pimpernel” McCarthy as he is more evasive than the character himself. The service has been just appalling and maybe ESB should look more closely at the companies that they contract the work out to in the future,
