During multiple live lessons, I experienced inappropriate and sexually explicit behavior from students. These incidents occurred while I was visible on camera. This created a serious safety concern while working.

The platform’s response has been limited to after-the-fact account blocking, with no real preventative measures in place. There is no effective real-time protection, no immediate safety tools, and no meaningful system to prevent repeat incidents from occurring.

What is especially concerning is the lack of action to protect teachers. Despite repeated reports, there has been no improvement in safety mechanisms or evidence of proactive measures being introduced. The responsibility is placed on tutors to report incidents after they happen, with no guarantee of prevention in future sessions.

I would give even less than one star. Absolutely do not get English lessons from these people! They told me, Native Canadian from Montreal, that my accent is not native!They don't understand English. They don't teach it. They teach accents. And thier judgement is a joke. I was born in Montréal. Raised Canadian. Speak like one. If they can't hear it, they're not qualified to rate it.

An amazing company honestly. I've working for around 7 years and if i don't have classes on other platforms, it's a HUGE BLESSING to be able to return to Engoo.
They have an amazing policy of only doing 1 class in 3 months to avoid being fired, so i like to keep them as a reserve.

In the beginning, they had weekend bonuses, the payment remained same during these 7 years, only 1 raise as i remember but i'm not totally sure, so that's why i need other platforms too.

You will pass a casual interview and take a test online. Easy for real teacher/tutors and you'll get hired immediately upon passing your interview. Working: an absolute colossal waste of time. You'll open slots in order to be selected by "students". What kinds of students? Serious, children to be babysat by you, venomous, rude, fun, eager, entrappers. The platform has changed in five years: in the beginning all you had to do was be available and you could generate a decent income. Not an income to support your whole life but enough to pay some bills.
Then they changed to a subscription service. After interviewing more than 100 Korean and Japanese students the following was found: non-native subscription is way cheaper that the native subscription and students will complain that "they can't find the teacher on the site". There are numerous non-native videos on Youtube bragging about making 50K pesos per month and showing the purchases. The excuse given by the platform is:"giving opportunities to tutors/teachers in developing countries". BS. Simply maintaining a higher bottom line through discrimination. Your student load will either be non-existent or "tree sap drippings". If you close slots after getting tired of staring at your computer you'll get a hostile message from the "Engoo owl" "DON'T CLOSE SLOTS STUDENTS WILL CHOOSE AT THE LAST MINUTE". The staff is hostile to the tutors and teachers and if there's a site glitch that causes you to miss a class you pay for it. Yes, pay for it by a percentage deduction. There are better sites that pay regularly if you just do the searching.

Engoo has slanted the teachers field: at one time if you opened 16 slots per day you might get 2-3 students. Be mindful that 16 slots means 10am to 10pm sitting in front of your laptop waiting for bookings. I used to get up to 200+ students per month by taking 12-15 students on Saturdays and Sundays. Doesn’t exist anymore. Recently I had a long time student I hadn’t seen in a while tell me he could not find me on the tutor’s page.

So…I messaged the online advisors and asked what’s going on. Engoo/DMM Eikaiwa had changed their subscription plan to “include teachers/tutors from developing countries”…meaning…native speakers were being excluded so non-natives, paid at a much lower rate, could increase the bottom line of Engoo.

You’ll sit for hours waiting for students daily. There are better sites for hard working Teachers. JS.

I worked for them in 2021. I didn't like the low pay rate and payment schedule - once a month. I tried it again in February 2023. I have yet to be paid 2 months later. In 2021, I was paid via Payoneer without a problem. In 2023, Payoneer requires you to verify your account. No problem sent them my passport and bank statement. According to Payoneer, my bank statement doesn't meet their "regulatory requirements". Mind you this is the same bank account linked to Payoneer and the account I used to transfer money. I have gone around in circles with Payoneer for a month. I have advised Engoo that I will not be able to resolve the issue with Payoneer - multiple times. I asked Engoo to make a one-time payment to my Paypal account. Gline - tutor payroll - stated we will make a one-time payment to Paypal on 29 March. Still no money - 5 April. Contact Gline again. Replies, We encourage you to work with Payoneer. They owe me $190. Avoid teaching on this site. They are not helpful or willing to work with tutors.

They said I had a month to improve cancelation percentage and cut my account off two weeks later.

The reason I cancelled so many classes is because students would give me 3/5 starts which would cut my income by 90% and then they would rebook my lesson.

It is good but the pay is way too low especially for tutors from my African country. I wish for improvement there.
