Although our initial dealings were excellent, our overall experience turned into something we can only describe as a small nightmare, falling very far short of the relaxing holiday we had expected.

This was not just because of the serious lack of comfort in the campervan, but above all because we felt completely unsafe due to a lack of basic maintenance and proper safety checks before the vehicle was handed over to us.

It is completely unacceptable — and impossible to justify — for a company that rents out campervans to hand over a vehicle in the following condition:

The battery had to be replaced at the exact moment the vehicle was handed over to us.

The engine warning light came on from the very beginning and remained on throughout the entire trip.

We had to top up the AdBlue ourselves.

The brake pad warning light came on, indicating that the brake pads needed replacing.

And, most seriously of all, one of the front wheel's bolts was not properly tightened. This could have caused a very serious accident.

Yes, all of this concerns basic safety.

The comfort issues are almost anecdotal compared to the above, but they still need to be mentioned:

The fridge did not work.

Some of the drawers could not be opened.

The upper bed leaked — yes, it leaked in Scotland.

The awning had a broken leg.

The electrical hook-up cable did not work.

This is what we experienced during our rental. And despite all of this, the company is still haggling over whether to offer us a refund.

Quite frankly, this is neither serious nor professional.

If you value your life, don't rent vans from this company. We had numerous safety and maintenance problems with the rental van, to the point that one of the wheels almost came off because all the bolts were loose and the wheel was wobbling while we were driving. Furthermore, the refrigerator didn't work, nor did the campsite charger for the sockets. There were leaks inside the van, the brake light kept coming on, and the brake pads were worn out. It was generally in dire need of maintenance; there were broken things inside the van. It was a disaster; it ruined our trip. It's better to spend a little more and go to another rental company than to rent from these people, who offered no solutions and didn't apologize for the poor condition of the van and for putting our safety and lives at risk.

I recently rented a camper van from Compass Campers for a trip through Scotland, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making the whole process smooth and enjoyable. Alison was at hand for any questions we had.

The camper van itself was immaculate, well-equipped, and comfortable – perfect for exploring the stunning Scottish landscapes and perfect for the small Scottish roads up north!

Compass Campers truly made our adventure memorable, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fantastic camper van experience in Scotland. I can’t wait to book with them again for our next trip!

Campervan moyennement équipé, il manquait même la manivelle du store. Le plus gros problème a été le remboursement de la caution: cela leur a pris 1 mois, après de multiples relances, pour finalement ne me rendre que la moitié ( 125 GPB), car un verrin a été cassé ( valeur sur amazon: 15 euros). J'ai aussi acheté de la vaisselle qui ne m'a pas été remboursée, malgré ce qui m'a été dit au départ.
Nous étions avec des amis qui ont pris directement chez IndieCampers: je ne peux que conseiller à tous de faire la même chose.
