Worst company
I bought a home that needed a new master closet. Closet by design came to my home and showed me a layout that I thought would work. We tweaked it a few times and she constantly went back to the original plans that she showed me. It was like they had one way of doing it and that’s the way it was going to be put in and there was no changing it even before it was built.
We also wanted a wall unit built we were willing to pay for whatever it cost, and she just didn’t understand what we wanted. She kept going back to what she thought was best and it was not what we had wanted and not what was best for our space it was insane. It was the craziest thing she just didn’t listen to what we asked for now I’m sitting with the closet that is not functional. The shelves are all too short. I have no doors. The drawers are so cheap. It’s the worst company to deal with. My husband had to hire a contractor to come in and redo it. Even when I called her after it was installed to express my concern that it was not what I had ordered. She said oh well I thought that was what was best for the spade. It was so frustrating. It’s the worst company do not use them

After signing a contract and paying the down payment, I was informed the next day that the design we had agreed on was not doable. After considering the proposed changes (for which I never agreed on) I requested by email a cancellation of the contract. Since that request came one day after the cancellation time of 3 days they did not honor the cancellation request, but also deducted the second installment of the contract. Numerous phone calls and waiting times later, I am still waiting for the payment to be returned and have to involve an attorney at this point. I can not judge their craftsmanship but their business conduct renders their company untrustworthy if not criminal.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVERRRRR
WORST EXPERIENCE EVERRRRR! Use California Closets. Do not use this company. They deceive you to try & get the sale the when you go with another company it took me almost 3 months to get my deposit back. Customer service is horrible. Check the reviews on Angie’s List & BBB first. The quality of work is not even as good as IKEA & they charge thousands. BEWARE!
I want to be fair
I want to be fair. I loved the design. It’s our 3rd job with the company and we’ve had great experiences. The only think is they put an office together for us and the height of the desk is 32 inches. I did ask about the height and they said it was standard. I can’t find a chair that actually lets me sit at it. I was given filing drawers but there is no hook to actually put folders in.
James and Glenn were awesome
James and Glenn were awesome. They came in with a plan to fix our issue and got it done. Very professional and courteous. Quality employees and a true asset to your team.
Poor design and poor customer service.
I am truly disappointed with Closets By Design. I had hoped investing in a custom closet would be everything that I wish for but instead, I have been sadly disappointed. I was recently visited by Larry McBride a customer relations coordinator whose idea it was for me to spend an additional $3000 to rectify all of the problems that occurred due to the original bad design. Let me say my biggest problem. Is that a standard size hanger can’t fit inside their closet. It hangs halfway outside of the closet, which to me defeats the purpose of having a closet. All he could tell me was that this was standard. This was what people spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on and that I should be satisfied with what I received. The matter is not over for me. I will seek legal council. Yes it may have been specified somewhere on the many documents that this was going to be a 12 inch depth closet however, nowhere in my mind did that register that a custom closet costing thousands of dollars would not be able to house a standard 17 inch hanger, so I am displeased to see the leas
Pinehurst TX: Design for Master Walk-In Closet
Sara my designer is wonderful. She was prompt for our appointment. I only had one idea for the focal point for chest of drawers lower and shelves upper on one wall visible from the master bath. The rest of the project, I asked if she would design. I trusted her ideas better than my own. She did maximize the space very well. The discount is very good. The special discount of 15% was very nice if I wanted to sign same day. I did, because I'd been thinking about this for two years. We are doing the Master Closet Walk-in. I had had closets in our previous house by another company I could not locate them. But Closets by Design has good online reviews, plus they were prompt to return my call, have everything you could possibly want, and Sara worked diligently with by budget (which I did not tell her the amount until design was complete). I did add a couple of upgrades like soft close drawers, but overall, I think the cost was very reasonable for getting almost all of what I wanted on 3 full walls. The wall with the opened door from bathroom, there was enough wall visible/usable to add a 4-bar jewelry module (choice of different types of hooks). I chose hooks to hang my necklaces. There is such nice hardware to choose from for hanging scarves, hats, belts, etc. I started with necklace hooks; I am sure I might add belts and scarves eventually. I'll try to upload photos for before and after. Their product is made right here in Texas which I liked very much, and I liked the seven-year warranty.

Designing Your Space With Style
I would recommend Tash Duvall as a Design Consultant for her professionalism, and effective communication. The setup is exactly what I requested, which more than met my expectations. The material is good and the installer was on time, efficient, and did an excellent job.
Why I decided against ClosetsbyDesign
Message for ClosetsbyDesign. I was looking to purchase some reach in closets and after getting the 40% +15% sales pitch in the mail decided to check it out. Well after checking reviews I decided not to go with ClosetsbyDesign. You should realize bad jobs, errors, delays and apparent ripping people off do not increase your market or image

Zero Customer Service and a production dept that has no clue. My 1 day project is going on 4 months with no end in sight. Maybe they should sub out to another franchise to complete my project. Insisted on requesting and cashing my check although project wasn't complete.
Built in desk system was designed but…
Built in desk system was designed but when it came time to install, there have been many problems. The lights didn’t work, the wood was scuffed and the desk panels were either cut incorrectly or installed incorrectly. They have been here twice since first installation and it remains the same. I haven’t been able to use it.
Be careful
Be careful. This small day-to-day business attempts to break contract by forcing patrons to pre-pay without any course of action should there be discrepancies. You have issues with the install you have no corse to take action.
They insist you prepay 100% of the cost prior to install. However, the contract explicitly states that final payment is due upon delivery. Heads up folks, you paid for a closet delivery, not parts for a closet.
Unsatisfactory experience
Our experience with Closets by Design during a 9‑month home renovation was extremely disappointing. Our general contractor hired this company to complete four different closet spaces, and from the very beginning the process was plagued with poor communication, repeated errors, and significant delays.
Samantha, the sales representative, visited multiple times to design and measure the spaces. Despite these visits, she often took days to respond to emails, and when installation time finally arrived, the measurements for three out of the four closets were still incorrect. Our general contractor had to step in and communicate directly with the installation coordinator, requiring numerous conversations and emails just to get the issues acknowledged and addressed.
When we believed everything had finally been sorted out, the installer, Mark, arrived—only to discover that the wrong drawer faces and hardware had been sent. Our GC contacted Nicole to resolve this, but the problems continued. Mark was scheduled at least two more times; on one visit he opened the boxes and found the parts were still wrong, and on two other occasions the company cancelled the installation on the same day because the correct parts had not arrived. This dragged on for months.
Eventually, our GC spoke with Angelo to express our frustration and requested a $1,400 reimbursement on a fully paid project of approximately $14,000 plus tax. Despite the extensive inconvenience, repeated mistakes, and the fact that our entire home renovation is now complete except for the closets, the company offered only $500 in compensation.
Based on our experience, we cannot recommend Closets by Design. The level of service over these many months has been far below acceptable—poor communication, repeated measurement errors, incorrect materials, and last‑minute cancellations.
The one positive note is Mark, the installer. He was polite, efficient, and clearly embarrassed by the ongoing mishandling. He apologized repeatedly and did his best with the situation. Unfortunately, his professionalism was overshadowed by the company’s systemic issues. Even the hardware was repeatedly wrong—black was ordered, but chrome arrived multiple times.
Overall, this has been a frustrating and unnecessarily prolonged experience, and we would strongly caution others before choosing this company.
Great service!!
My realtor recommended Jack, and from our very first interaction, it was clear we were in great hands. He took the time to truly listen to what we wanted and asked thoughtful questions to understand how we actually use our space, not just how it looks on paper. That level of care made all the difference.
Jack did an incredible job designing our walk-in closet and was extremely intentional about every detail. What impressed us most was how he helped us save thousands of dollars by creating an efficient, smart design that maximized space without overbuilding or pushing unnecessary upgrades. He was honest about what we did and didn’t need, which made us trust his recommendations completely.
Beyond his talent, Jack is simply a pleasure to work with. He is communicative, responsive, charismatic, and very down to earth. He explained the process clearly, educated us along the way, and made sure we felt confident and informed at every step. You can tell he’s highly intelligent and deeply knowledgeable about his craft — designing closets isn’t just his job, it’s something he truly takes pride in.
This experience felt personal, professional, and stress-free from start to finish. We never felt rushed or pressured, just genuinely supported. If you’re considering Closet by Design, I can’t recommend Jack highly enough. He exceeded our expectations in every way and delivered a result we absolutely love and will enjoy for years to come.
Closets by Debacle
Our first experience buying from Closets by Design Jacksonville will be our last. This is due to a failure on the part of the company's installation team. The two guys sent to assemble our custom wall unit did not follow the approved and documented design instructions. It's unclear whether they were at fault, or were given misinformation. Either way, the $5K wall unit was nearly complete when we discovered the problem. I notified the designer/sales associate, who was quick to triage the situation by contacting the installation manager. The guys had to dismantle what they had just spent two hours putting together and then drive the components back to the warehouse. They returned ninety minutes later with new components and started the process all over again. What should have taken a couple of hours monopolized the better part of a day and left visible drill holes from the wrong install in our freshly painted walls. The experience was a fiasco. I would never recommend Closets by Design.
Clostes By Design Niagara
This is our experience with CBD Niagara The entire process took 4 months from beginning to end. The design suggested deviated from what I originally asked for however you trust the experts and believe the design they reccomend will work. Not the case. The designer is not well equipped to develop a design that can be installed with satisfactory outcome. The single door the shelf theee drawer cabinet was installed so the the handle hit the wall and the pull outs (suggested instead of drawers) could not be installed full width due to the standard hinge CBD use, they can not or do not uses flat hinges. this resulted in the installer having to significantly reduce the size of the drawer and off set the drawer by using an unsightly laece plastic spacer. This was not functionally nor aesthetically what one would expect from a custom design company. The installer was an expert at gaslighting and manipulation ranting at me and showing me her own 20 year old “custom” (builders install) kitchen showing how the handle of her cabinet hit her cork board and how her pull outs had spacers. Well design has come a long way in 20 years. after a battle to accept the design was flawed we settled on what I originally asked for 3 shelf closet with a door and 3 drawers with soft close and no handles and push latches. One we settled on this the real hell began they basically said they would not complete the work without me signing an agreement/gag order, They were in a very strong bully mode until they realized I stoped payment on the final payment and put a dispute in on the deposit. Along comes Lee to work things out. We agreed to rework and set time for this to begin we agreed upon a date and window of time. the time was pushed to later the morning of the rework then pushed again because they needed to recut some of the install pieces then they were still not on site as promised. finally the installer arrived 1 hour and 45 min past the final agreed upon time! Then the hardware for the handelless drawers would not fit the installer apologized and sais the office would call to make a final appointment, a week on there was no call. I spoke with Lee again and in 10 minutes I had a call from the head office to book a time to get the job done. Just today th closet is finally complete. To be clear if I could write 2 reviews the installation team and Lee would get 5/5 and head office design, booking, finance and the franchise owner 0/10. They are franchises and that was our aha moment as we had used them in another city and they were fabulous. my advice, call around and ask if anyone has used the local franchise. Do not rely on reviews, they take a brutal and illicit stance to gag anyone who has had any issues and it probably works for them most of the time. My advice would be to find a local cabinet maker with good referrals from their local customers. Thats where we will go when we do our walk in closet, under stair storage and wine cellar. Man I am so glad I started small. The aggravation and frustration alone was beyond reason and not worth trying to support pursuing any CBD franchise for any further work. This put our entire renovation plan 4 months behind all for the sake of one basic simple closet install.
Sold our previous home which had 10’…
Sold our previous home which had 10’ ceilings as we were downsizing. Lived there for 13 years. Thought the company that installed our closet systems was Closets By Design. Found out much later it was not. Called CBD and had them give me a quote. The designer was relatively new but trained. The design failed to take into consideration that the new home we were moving to had 9’ ceilings. The double rod hanging areas were too short to accommodate a mens regular suit causing the bottom of the jackets to hit the bottom rod and fold, and then the bottom rod would have to be moved down which would also cause the bottom of the suit to hit the bottom plate. Their solution was to move the upper rod up (there was only one hole to move it up) and which made it more difficult to get a hangar in and out) and to remove the toe kick (which we didn’t do) which would have ruined the appearance and we had carpeting installed after the installation so bare floor would be showing. We expected more shelves for the shoes. In order to properly rectify the situation they would have to move the shelves above the hanging rods up to create more space between the rods. That would mean smaller shelving height and major work. The designer had seen our previous primary closet and knew how many shoes we had and saw how the floor to ceiling sections for shoes were done. Crown molding in one of the closets was not properly installed and now has a gap. The office girl who called to make the appointments called me three times to set appointments - but the appointments were not for me! She was confused. The installer did a good job except for that one piece of crown molding which we didn’t notice until recently. The design was not his fault. The company had discounted the three closets as we came closer to making a decision, but honestly, even at the price we paid, it wasn’t worth it. They also wanted a check before the closets were completed. I understand why now. I had a custom woodworker who made our cherry book cases for our library cut additional shelves and I matched the paint to finish of the product CBD installed: CBD wanted a ridiculous amount for additional shelves. Would NOT recommend this company. Would recommend our original provider, whom we are having do our two remaining closets. That is Closet Factory. We lived in Brentwood, TN and moved to Franklin, TN. Never got a follow-up call from the owner. I will say they did provide drawings and we did sign off on them but did not measure our existing spaces to the drawings. Caveat Emptor.

I had 7 different projects done by Closets By Design in two homes and they were expertly done. Michelle Stillman was a delight to work with on all these projects and I highly recommend working with her. The quality of the workmanship and materials is excellent and I am very satisfied with all the results. They’re user friendly and beautifully designed. Highly recommend!!
Closets By Design in Barrie
Closets By Design in Barrie, Ontario are simply the worst. Todd Clifford is the manager who knows how to seek but their service sucks and all they want from you is your Money. The material they use is crap and they use whom ever they can to install the work. The f you need anything after they overcharged you, no one will be there to assist. “Do Not Use Them” find some one who works on his own to build you abu cabinet and save money and avoid problems.
