I am writing this review to warn other job seekers, particularly fresh graduates, about the circumstances under which I was pushed into enrolling for a CIFA certification.
I was contacted by a recruiter who claimed to have come across my profile and expressed a strong interest in placing me for a finance role in the UK with a salary of £45,000. After an initial call explaining the opportunity in detail, I was sent a job description. Shortly after, I was informed that the role required specific qualifications, and CIFA was presented as the recognised certification I would need to proceed with the application.
Under the impression that this was a legitimate job pipeline, I paid for the course. The job, needless to say, did not materialise. He ghosted me after i paid for the course and did not reply for any emails or texts.
By the time I realised what had happened and attempted to request a refund, I was informed that the 14-day cancellation window had already passed. As a result, I lost close to £400 — a significant amount for a fresh graduate who was simply trying to secure their first role.
What concerns me is not just the financial loss, but the deliberate targeting of candidates who are in a vulnerable position — recent graduates who are eager and trusting. Presenting a certification as a gateway to a confirmed job opportunity, and then collecting course fees from candidates acting in good faith, is ethically questionable at best.
I am not in a position to say whether CIFA is directly responsible for this recruitment approach, but the pattern is worth flagging publicly. If you have been contacted in a similar manner — a recruiter, a promising JD, and then a push toward a paid certification — please do your research before paying anything. It happened to me in 2023.
Legitimate employers do not require you to self-fund a certification before an interview.

The course is accredited by a company with reviews almost as bad as CIFA.

by the time i asked for a refund it was too late as you only get 14 days to refund the material.

It feels like an elaborate marketing scam to make more people purchase the course.

I would give this course 4 star. Key topics are easy to learn because to the straightforward and organized framework of the Introduction to Investment, Risk and Taxation course. It covers risk, taxation and the fundamentals of investing in a useful manner. It would be even better with a few more real-world examples, but this is a solid foundation course all around.

This course provides a solid foundation in accounting and finance, especially for those new to the business world. I appreciated how it explains key concept like financial statements, budgeting, and cash follow and apply the knowledge in real business scenarios.

It's a great choice for anyone who wants to build confidence in business finance without feeling overwhelmed by technical details.

What stood out to me about the Introduction to UK Financial Regulation course was how quickly it gets to the point. There is no unnecessary filler, just clear explanations of how the UK financial system is structured and why professional integrity matters so much in the industry.

If you want a straightforward and well presented overview of UK financial regulation without feeling overwhelmed, this is a very good choice.

GRADUATES PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

I was contacted by a recruitment agent who claimed to be hiring for a data analyst role at a finance company offering a very high salary for a graduate. Looking back that should have been my first red flag. We spent almost an hour on the phone going through my CV and I was told the hiring manager was supposedly very interested in my profile.
Then came the catch. The recruiter insisted that I needed a finance qualification to progress my application and pushed me to enrol in a CIFA course. I was told that all I needed to do was sign up, get a QR code and the recruitment company would move my application forward. As a recent graduate eager to secure a job I reluctantly agreed and purchased the course.

The moment I confirmed payment the recruiter disappeared. Up until then they had been persistent and attentive. I emailed CIFA requesting a refund and the next day after my refund request the recruiter emailed me again with a generic holding message saying my CV had been shortlisted. It is very hard to believe this timing was a coincidence.

Based on my experience I cannot shake the feeling that CIFA may be working with these recruiters to get people to enrol on their courses. Otherwise I cannot understand why a recruiter would aggressively push a specific course that has no clear relevance to them unless there was some commission or incentive behind it. Now I could be wrong but the situation felt far too coordinated...

Whether intentional or not the outcome is the same. Vulnerable graduates are made to feel that buying a course is necessary for a job opportunity.

Selling a course is not a fine but coercing someone into purchasing one in order for their application to be progressed is not. After reading similar reviews it appears that graduates are being targeted because they are eager to start their careers.

DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT!

My experience with CIFA has been excellent, from the customer service and enrolment process to the quality of the learning materials.

I must say this is better than the previous provider I went with for my last year CPD requirements as this has video lectures.

I had trouble with enrolment process, but the student support team assisted me well, learning material is excellent

I'm finding the lectures in the study support are a lot better than reading through the e-book and to be honest very engaging I would highly recommend.

My enrolment was smooth from student support, I purchased the UK regulation course to try and up skill my FCA knowledge as I want to pursue an investment banking career path, at the moment the content is very knowledgeable.

I genuinely enjoyed the learning experience, it explained complex topics in a simple, practical way. Same parts felt a bit lengthy,but the overall quality and clarity made it worth the time. Definitely helped me grow professionally.

I enrolled on my certification last night and this is by far the most user friendly platform iv been on by far.
