Chorley (not) Online!
My rating of this arrogant, misleading, Victorian Age building society, is solely based upon their so called "online" savings account.
One can deposit their savings online by using faster payments for example, but when a withdrawal of one’s money is required, it can only be at one of their branches in Lancashire, by CHAPS (£25), or by cheque following a postal withdrawal application procedure. So not at all online!
Chorley asserts that this is in their Ts & Cs, but this should not be in their “small print”, and there are no truely online accounts that I know of, that have these constraints on the account holder, just to get their own money repaid!
I lost over £32 in interest alone, when I closed my Chorley account, as I found it impossible to estimate either (random) postal, or Chorleys timeframes on receiving and acting upon my written closure instructions. This resulted in their cheque arriving on a Friday, and hence not being cleared until late on the following Monday. Not to mention taking the cheque to a bank in town!
This is unacceptable, and I have requested that the Ombudsman investigate the issue!
