Tell it the format for dates, the format for quotes or references.

Disappointing experience and poor customer service at Kiln Park

We booked and paid for a Diamond Lodge at Kiln Park because we were travelling with my elderly parents and wanted them to have a comfortable and special holiday. However, on arrival we were allocated Lodge 12, St Mary’s View, which we later discovered was an Emerald Lodge. Haven acknowledged that this was caused by a system error, but there was no Diamond Lodge available for us to move into. We therefore had no choice but to remain in accommodation we had not booked, selected or expected.

The accommodation itself felt more like a caravan on wheels than the Diamond Lodge we had specifically chosen. It was considerably smaller than anticipated, and my elderly father struggled to move around the bedroom because of the limited space around the bed. This caused genuine concern about his safety and the possibility of him falling.

There were also only four dining chairs for five guests, no baking trays, a cracked drinking glass, and an additional chair that was requested but never delivered.

Unfortunately, the poor customer service made an already disappointing situation worse. We felt there was a lack of empathy and understanding towards our circumstances, particularly regarding my parents’ age and mobility difficulties. Staff were aware of the problems my father was experiencing, yet our request for just 30 additional minutes at checkout to allow him to leave the accommodation safely was refused. This felt particularly insensitive and added unnecessary stress at the end of the holiday.

Although Haven refunded £330, this only addressed the price difference. It did not properly compensate us for failing to provide the accommodation we had paid for, or for the inconvenience, disappointment and loss of enjoyment caused. Had we wanted an Emerald Lodge, we would have booked one.

Haven has acknowledged that the booking error was caused by a system problem, but we have not received a satisfactory explanation of what caused it or what safeguards are being introduced to prevent it happening again.

We previously enjoyed a holiday with Haven at New Quay West, which is why this experience was particularly disappointing. Unfortunately, the incorrect accommodation, inadequate facilities, poor customer service and lack of empathy have significantly reduced our confidence in Haven. We would now be reluctant to book a higher-grade lodge with the company again.
