Massive disapointment
Massive disapointment. Bayeuax tapestry, from what I got to see in my 20 min viewing, should have been 40 mins was great. No words can describe how good. The boats/ships like they were sailing. The horses were like they were running Animals etc excellent.
However, I was online for 9 hours when I ordered my tickets. I was given a fixed time slot. We get there. Start to queue ( yes there was an enormous queue even though we are all on time slots. My time was 1620. I start to queue at 1600. A museum worker tells me I must only start to join a queue at 1620 that had 250 people to the front??? We are moved in slowly like cattle. No idea of whats going on. We arrive at the front of the first queue only to be talked to like we were at school. Being told 25 mins only ( were told 40 mins ) and no pics, as that takes time!
25 people in line to start of the tapestry at approx 1740, we are told the lights go off at 6pm and we need to side shift and fast in order to see this cultural wonder!
Coming from a health and safety background i wondered why 1000 to 1500 people were not given any fire drill info or emergency exits notice? Perhaps this was not relevant? i am sure the tapestry was to be protected in case of any issue like fire? Then, why are the elderly, of which there were many, not given a day to view it without a rush when seating is arranged for them to rest and not be pushed along like sheep? They do not deserve this! Why wasnt their a first aid station or appointed clearly indentified first aider? Perhaps St John's could help? Water stations?
Great, great great main attraction but let down everywhere else.
Gift shop fiasco
The gift shop has a contact number to ring for refunds but when you ring re directed to web site to send an email despite sending two with details of faulty goods with a belated reply. You are only allowed 7 days to request these details it is a nightmare trying to find out how to obtain a refund and return an item.
Come on British museum where is the accessibility.
British Museum is the National Treasure!
Great, historical place and the most wonderful experience — I think it is worth to fly to the UK across the whole World - just to visit this museum! The British Museum is the place I want to come back to again and again!
Always remember that the one day is never enough. Every visit feels different , and there is always something new to discover and to get amazed!
The restaurant inside the museum was so lovely! We enjoyed an afternoon tea there. The food was very good and it was the perfect break after exploring the galleries.
No matter how many times I visit the British Museum, I always notice something I missed before. We will definitely be coming back again!
No air con and expensive snacks
Visited yesterday form out of town.
Come on Osborne -you're good at cutting! - so why can't you cut the numbers visiting on a hot Saturday to make it less stiffling?
No air con and an expensive bistro: two small prawn cocktails and a diet coke, £30!
Time for changes to the top team.
Unfair and unreasonable ticket booking process
I queued for over 8 hours to obtain tickets for the Bayeaux Tapestry exhibition. At around 23.00 the message on the website told me "queue suspended" so I gave up and went to sleep. When I got up around 06.00 a message told me I'd missed my slot at 05.42. How is this reasonable? Surely there's a better way to manage this.

I spent 3 hours today queueing for tickets to the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition to suffer the indignity of being unable to get any. Once I got to the front of the queue I was asked to go to the calendar and choose my preferred date but THERE WAS NO CALENDAR. BM replied; "We are sorry to hear you experienced difficulties booking tickets for the Bayeux Tapestry Experience. Our website is very busy which has impacted our online booking at certain times.
If your 10-minute session timed-out due to inactivity, you will need to re-join the virtual queue to access tickets. Unfortunately we will not be able to assist you further on this"
They couldn't give a monkeys'. As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression this is something that will take a while to get over.

Dialled up their membership line to pay £112 for a membership. Line opened at 10:00 and I was on it in 20 seconds.
Cut off after 23 minutes, again at 6 minutes, gave up at 10:42. No answer to my query if they do a seniors discount of forces discount.
Awful booking service
2 hour queue to book tickets only to get chucked out of queue and returned to the back. awful service
Incredibly busy and crowds weren't managed. The building is magnificent.
Incredibly busy with some galleries closed due to the heat. The building is magnificent.
I do think they ought to limit the number of people who can visit at one time. We booked timed tickets but it didn't seem to matter - everyone was let in at the same time. It meant each exhibition was very busy and it did make it hard to see the fantastic exhibits.
They had historians/archaeologist in some of the cooler rooms with real artefacts that you could touch - this was really interesting.
Staff were readily available and knowledgable and extremely helpful too.
I would really like to return on a quieter day.
I would encourage the BM to provide better signage that is easier to read along with more signs to highlight that very old exhibits shouldn't be touched. Every sign is in English only - maybe reminders in other languages would be helpful.
A great place to visit
A great place to visit. Really enjoyed seeing what the museum had to offer.
I like it
There is a huge collection of very interesting articles. You can learn lots of history there.
A day at the museum
After a visit to Greece we wanted to see for ourselves what the museum held related to the Parthenon and Mycenaeans.
I booked tickets online which was easy. I was a little put off by the number of people streaming in on arrival but we were quickly admitted.
The galleries were busy and as a wearer of varifocals it was sometimes difficult to get near enough to printed information to focus and read. However we were able to see clearly how the artifacts had been in their Athens setting and to admire details at close quarters.
I had come home from Greece with the opinion that the Elgin marbles should be returned. However on seeing the amount and scale of items I am reviewing my opinion. The items are well displayed and cared for. It seems that Lord Elgin rescued them from the destruction of bomb blast and exposure to the elements. Whilst I do think they belong in Athens I can see it would need a massive effort and expense to do that and they are safely kept for posterity where they are.
Generally it was a very busy day in the gallery but we were able to see what we wanted and get lunch without too long a wait. My main complaint would be the queue for the ladies toilet next to the gift shop. There were other toilets and maybe a clear notice advising ladies of alternative facilities before you descend the stairs to find the melee at the bottom would be helpful.
What is your purpose in displaying the…
What is your purpose in displaying the ancient artifacts of other countries in museums for the people of those countries? Is this a show of power? If it is a show of power, I must tell you that by doing so you are only showing your weakness and showing that there is nothing to show in your own history, or in other words, you have no history to show at all.
Went once won't go back
Went once, saw the stolen artefacts, won't go back since they have cowed to a nefarious lobby group and are complicit in erasing history, I hope they will be at least making changes across the whole museum in a consistent way but I'm sure they won't, return the stolen artefacts and shut it down
Disgusted that the museum is now…
Disgusted that the museum is now clearly dishonest and untrustworthy. They seek to erase and alter history to please Zionist bullies. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Disgustingly run by amateurs who bow…
Disgustingly run by amateurs who bow down to external pressure. No serious historian would try to change history. Utterly disgraceful!
Shambles of a museum
Shambles of a museum, fake is the perfect word with stolen artefacts, made up history and lies. Free Palestine! Avoid.
Stolen artefacts from many around the…
Stolen artefacts from many around the world but the worst is the fact that the British Museum is now removing PALESTINE from all historical artefacts and maps, which is them taking part in the cultural genocide of the Palestinian people and I will never visit the Museum again. UNLESS you reinstate the PALESTINE
Cultural Genocide of Palestine
Stolen artefacts from many countries but the worst is the fact that the British Museum is now removing Palestine from all historical artefacts and maps, which is them taking part in the cultural genocide of the Palestinian people and I will never visit the Museum again.
