Avoid for repairs
Unfortunately, I was promised great things from ASA Jewellers in Alderley Edge, and they didn't deliver.
I noticed on Sunday evening that my watch had some water in it, so I thought I would take it into them as the other jewellers in Alderley is closed on a Monday. They say on a board outside that they have their own workshop and cover all major brands. As my watch is a vintage Omega, I know that it usually needs to be sent back to Omega in Switzerland (4 month timescale), but they promised a 2 week turnaround for the repair. He advised that it was probable that the seal had gone in the watch given its age.
He also offered to do a service too, for £350 cash.
Last time I had it service it was at Omega in Trafford Centre Goldsmiths, and it cost around £300, so I agreed.
He wrote me out a receipt for the item.
He then WA me to advise that the watch was back on the Thursday, and again asked for cash.
When I went to pick up the watch, I asked if the watch was water tight again, and he said he would check with his workshop. He also wanted back the hand written receipt (which I didn't give him as this is my only proof that I took the watch there). I handed over the cash.
Later that day, on closer inspection of the watch, it was clear that the jewels were missing from the mechanism.
I messaged him to ask if they had inadvertently put in the wrong mechanism. He said he would check with his workshop.
The next Monday, he messaged me to say that I could bring back the watch for his specialist to review, but also said that the watch wasn't watertight and there is nothing further he can do.
The watch works, but it clearly isn't the same mechanism.
Unfortunately for me I was too trusting of a high street shop, but asking for cash....should have got my "spidey senses" tingling!
AVOID.
