Install numbers skyrocketed according to the Branch.io tracking....but at 04:00 in the morning on a weekday (we set our target to our own country only). Burning the entire daily budget in less than an hour. This repeated for 3 days. When we compared metrics like app launches there was absolutely no increase despite apparently hundreds of extra users having downloaded the app. These were supposed to be non incentivized users coming from ads.

Not only did we waste cash our app retention figures absolutely crashed.

A little bit of further digging revealed that despite being a UK ONLY campaign, the time zone of the mythical install devices were Asia, Ho-Chi Min, Jakarta, Bangkok etc.
