Microwave Exhaust Fan Installed Backward
We bought a GE Cafe microwave from ApplianceLand in July 2024. In January, 2025, the light came on, notifying the owner to change the charcoal filter. True, the instructions in the GE owner's manual were terrible - they were only vaguely correct, and the illustration looked nothing like my microwave - and we can't say much for the design flaw in the vent replacement positioning that caused us to call GE to send a repairman after the microwave subsequently stopped working after we plugged it back in as the manual directed. But imagine our surprise when he noticed that the EXHAUST FAN BEHIND THE FILTER WAS INSTALLED BACKWARD! The exhaust fan should have been installed facing the other way for our microwave oven because it was supposed to operate in RECIRCULATE mode, NOT EXTERNAL EXHAUST mode. Of course, we knew that our apartment had no external exhaust and WE TOLD THE APPLIANCELAND SALES AGENT TO SPECIFY RECIRCULATE MODE. But it really shouldn't have mattered if the sales agent was so stupid they forgot to tell the installers because EVEN A COMPLETE MORON COULD SEE THERE IS NO EXTERNAL EXHAUST VENT IN OUR KITCHEN. BUT DID THE INSTALLERS THAT APPLIANCELAND SENT NOTICE THAT? NO! DID THEY TAKE FIVE MINUTES WITH A SCREWDRIVER TO REVERSE THE FAN TO THE RECIRCULATE POSITION? NO! So, after six months of using it in our kitchen, we found out that our new $1000 microwave oven was operating with the fan installed backward. Not good. We would suggest you folks BUY YOUR MAJOR APPLIANCES SOMEWHERE BESIDE APPLIANCELAND because either their sales staff are stupid and incompetent and/or APPLIANCELAND doesn’t care about whether the people they hire to install the appliances they sell know what they are doing.
