Apollo Motorhome Holidays - Darwin Arvostelua 

the van was great the apollo staff were fantastic explaining everything and showed us around the van

Had another motorhome organised but vehicle was damaged beyond repair last minute so rang Apollo and was able to organise replacement, great. Was told motorhome under 5 years old would be in better condition so opted for this vehicle.
Picked up the motorhome and handover staff were very friendly and helpful. Was given the motorhome induction and the BBQ hatch could not be opened, technician had to come and repair the door.
Two draws locks was broken, one being held in place by a tight bungee chord which my wife could not open. The bin draw flew open on every corner as its lock was also broken, this was a continual problem during our hire period. Most doors and draws did not line up and were difficult to close due to missing screws and poor alignment.
First time I opened the toilet, bugs flew out. This had to be throughly cleaned and sanitised before we could use it. I considered this to be a biological health hazard.
The microwave sparked during use making it unusable.
One of the two BBQ burners would not stay alight.

The above issues spoiled our experience with the motorhome especially as when booking this motorhome I was led to believe I opted for a vehicle in better condition being under 5 years old. This vehicle was 3 years old.
The lovely lady at handover even stated that this vehicle looks like it should have been downgraded.

Apart from the above issues the motorhome mechanicals performed quite well and was easy to drive, the seats very very comfortable with an expected amount of road noise.

I have sent emails to several Apollo addresses and also the Darwin address I was given on return of the motorhome but unfortunately have not had a reply by now, over a week after the emails were sent. I find this quite poor on Apollo’s part.

If Apollo read this I would love a reply from them.

We wouldn’t even give Apollo one star and certainly will never use Apollo again or recommend Apollo to anyone else.
We booked a Hitop Camper on 14/3/2026 for pick up on 3/7/2026. We booked our camping holiday to Kakadu, Katherine Gorge and Litchfield National Park for a small campervan. Before our trip we received lots of emails and information about the Hitop Camper and checked in online on 20/6/2026.
On Friday 3/7/2026 we woke at 3.30 am to fly from Canberra to Darwin via Brisbane. We arrived at Apollo’s premises in Darwin at about 2.30 pm expecting to collect our Hitop Camper and be on our way for a much needed meal and to do the shopping for our trip. After a lengthy introduction and explanation process we were asked to wait outside the building for our Hitop Camper to be collected and bought to us. After quite a long time, what appeared was not a Hitop Camper, but some dodgy looking motor home. We said this was not what we had booked and paid for and did not want it because it was too big for us to be confident driving and might not fit into some of the camp sites we had booked. We were told that the Hitop Camper we were supposed to get was damaged and needed to be repaired and this could only happen three days later - on Monday at the earliest.
We did not feel we could wait as we had camp sites and activities booked on the Saturday and Sunday and there was no guarantee that a Hightop Camper would be available on the Monday.
After a lengthy discussions with the staff at Apollo we agreed to take the only other camper van available which was a 4x4 Toyota Hilux camper, in spite of the fact that this was not what we wanted. We were then told we had to pay an extra $1,800 for this vehicle.
Eventually at about 5.30 pm the 4x4 Toyota Hilux camper was ready and we left Apollo. During the 3 hours we waited at Apollo stressing about what was going to happen we were ignored and actually had to go and explain to the staff that we’d left Canberra at 3.30 am and needed something to eat and drink and be on our way to do our shopping.
We are also really upset that we did not get the camper van we had booked and paid for and planned our trip around and were made to pay an extra $1,800 for something we did not want or need. We did not find this vehicle comfortable and never went off sealed roads.

Easy pick up and drop off. Super friendly staff. Motor home was great, first time we have used one. Bed was okay and I think we would have got more used to it if we had it longer. Left the bed set up and never used the indoor table, couldn't be bothered. Super easy to drive. Only complaint - would be nice if dishwashing liquid, salt/pepper and oil were included

Great way to travel. A bit more information on the what's and wherefores of the camper on the information sheet, but we found out along the way . Ellen gave us a good tour of van , very helpful and got her supervisor if she wasn't sure of something 🤔. The van did need a much better clean. Crumbs on seats and where mattress was situated. The windows had finger marks all over them. The fridge wasn't closed properly so was frozen and wet when we first stopped. Kiwi lady agreed that it was an issue?? Was a great way to try out a campervan.

Vehicle broke down on 2d day. 4 hour wait then 150 km tow in wrong direction. 1.5 day lost time on vacation.

Making the booking online was difficult and I hadn't read that i hsd no windscreen or tyre inclusion in the package i chose. Picking up the vehicle took a while, but i do get why. The staff were really understanding and patient. We really enjoyed the vehicle
It had all the comforts. The bed took some getting used to and the shower and toilet situation was really in a confined space but we got by. Overall we would use Apollo again. It was a hassle free experience and staff were very helpful at the drop off too.
