I thought Car Planet would stand by their word, and be trusted. I was so very wrong. This experience has costed a lot of stress, anxiety and money.

I had an issue with a car fault within the first week of purchasing the car.

The catalytic converter was faulty and had to be replaced.

I went to Car Planet in Watford, waited for over an hour, just so that someone

can tell me I’ll get a phone call.

While waiting, staff were unhelpful and unprofessional.

Eventually I spoke to someone, told them the issue, as well as emailing after sales

the diagnostic report.

My car was fetched the next day.

For 3 days, numerous emails and phone calls, not a single person could give me

an update.

Got a phone call to collect my car in Enfield at the Mega Centre. No one was there to help. I

had to actually phone after sales to let them know I am waiting to collect my car.

Eventually get my keys. I asked for a report or invoice to show what work was done on my

car. ‘The response was: ‘We do not do that here.’

After a few weeks, the same problem comes up. Go for a diagnostic, FAULTY PART WAS NOT REPLACED.

I had to fork out all my savings to have the car fixed.

I reported it, no response.

I managed to obtain an email regarding what work was actually done on my car. The driver’s seat

had some work done to it. This was not even mentioned in emails or phone calls. I DID NOT GIVE

PERMISSION OR AUTHORIZE them to do that work on my car. Ti add to that, the work they said to have done, it wasn’t.

I have posted letters, phone calls and emails, only to have ZERO COMMINICATION! This was inside the warranty.

I have all time and date stamped emails, reports, etc. Which I have forwarded to after sales, support as well as the office in Watford.

I AM JUST BEING IGNORED!

Car Planet should take responsibility for their mistake!

AVOID AVOID. My partners daughter Purchased a car that within three days has a gearbox malfunction. Independent garage says it needs a new gearbox. Car Planet said they’d collect the car as it is being returned for a full refund but didn’t show up twice on the appointed days despite confirming. Clearly delaying to take it beyond 14 days. Legal proceedings being instigated. Complete scammers selling unfit vehicles. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!

Ish fantastic customer service

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it is important to share my experience so that other potential customers can make an informed decision.

I travelled to view and test drive an Audi A4 that I was genuinely interested in purchasing. Unfortunately, the experience started poorly. The site was extremely busy, there appeared to be no dedicated customer parking, and I was directed to park amongst the vehicles that were for sale.

After arriving, I then had to wait approximately 45 minutes because the vehicle I had booked to view was located at the St Albans site and needed to be transported across. Having travelled specifically to view the car, this was disappointing.

When the vehicle eventually arrived, it was not presented in the condition I would have expected. The car was dirty, displaying a tyre pressure warning, and had almost no fuel in it. Whilst I was still able to test drive the vehicle, it did not create the best first impression for a car valued at over £24,000.

Despite these issues, I still liked the vehicle and was interested in proceeding. However, the sales process then raised further concerns.

When discussing finance, I was initially presented with figures that included approximately £5,000 worth of extras that I had not requested, including warranty products, service plans, paint protection and other add-ons. I made it clear that I was not interested in these products and wanted figures for the vehicle itself.

I was not provided with a formal finance proposal, APR details, total amount payable, or the full finance breakdown during my visit. Instead, I was left feeling under pressure to place a deposit to secure the car. More than £100 was requested, but I refused and agreed to pay only £100.

I was also surprised to discover that payment had to be made by bank transfer as card payments were not accepted. This removes the additional protection many consumers would ordinarily have when making a significant purchase using a credit card.

After paying the deposit, I then waited two days for the finance information. When it eventually arrived, it was simply sent via WhatsApp and consisted largely of monthly payment figures with and without protection products. The figures were significantly higher than I expected and, given the lack of transparency and detailed documentation, I decided not to proceed with the purchase.

During my own research into the company, I also noticed that the Car Planet website advertises several 2026 award wins. However, the official Motor Trader Industry Awards 2026 and Motor Trader Independent Dealer Awards 2026 finalists pages currently list Car Planet as a finalist in a number of categories. At the same time, the Car Planet website refers to several of these achievements as 2026 award wins. This discrepancy raised additional concerns for me regarding transparency and accuracy as the awards are not until 18 November 2026

Having decided not to proceed, I requested a refund of my £100 deposit. At this point communication became even more frustrating.

I sent several messages requesting an update on my refund. Responses through the Car Planet WhatsApp group were slow, and I emailed my salesperson, specifically regarding the refund but never received a reply. I was then told the refund would take 6-7 working days despite the payment having been made instantly by bank transfer. This was particularly concerning because the Car Planet website states that deposit refunds are automatic after 2 days.

What I found even more frustrating was that after I had clearly stated that I no longer wished to proceed and wanted my deposit returned, I received further finance information the following day along with phone calls and a barrage of emails from finance providers, despite my decision already having been made.

The vehicle itself may have been suitable, but the overall customer experience left me with very little confidence. What started as a straightforward enquiry turned into a series of concerns involving vehicle presentation, finance transparency, communication, award claims, payment methods and refund handling.

Buying a car is one of the largest purchases most people will make, and trust is essential. Unfortunately, by the end of this process I had completely lost confidence in proceeding with the transaction.

At the time of writing this review, I am still waiting for my £100 deposit to be refunded.
EDIT - following my review I have been contact by the car planet support team who have completed the refund and resolved the matter. However the concerns raised in my review regarding the sales process, finance transparency, communication remain an accurate reflection of my experience.
