Absolutely the best car rental experience possible! My second time in Cork, Ireland and my 2nd time renting a car there from Sixt. And again the Sixt car rental company agent was so helpful, patient and informative. Made the entire care rental experience a joy and I hope to travel to Cork city again in 2026. So many castles, museums and parks to explore.

Outstanding service
Would just like to review the Cork airport Sixt staff and service that is Sixt Cork airport. With Pete and Ritchie, Elaine and Eion, the service, assistance and responsive staff that make you feel so very welcome, with no request being too much, staying late to meet me after a delayed flight, and all with a smile. You can say fairer that, outstanding people with the values a company should be proud off. Great all round performance
An extra 295 euro for a puncture
A 295 euro puncture is not what I expected.
Sixt has no spare tyre or other means to fix a puncture other then calling their partner service compagny which will only replace the tyre for a brand new one.
I could have a puncture fixed for € 25 by any garage.
In this case we had to pay €295 on the spot. Not refundable and Sixt owns the tyre

Intentional fraudulent behavior
We rented a car from Sixt at Dublin Airport via booking.com for 10 days. We had booked an insurance package in advance so that the car was fully covered. That means glass damage, underbody damage, etc. were all included. The rental cost was just under 300 euros.
When we arrived at the Sixt counter in Dublin, the staff were friendly, but they repeatedly tried to push additional, unnecessary insurance on us. We emphasized several times that we did not need any extra insurance because everything was already covered. The young man then handed us a tablet to sign, which showed an amount of 297 euros. Again, we asked what this amount was for. We were told it reflected the rental costs. We signed, as we could not spot any discrepancy with the rental agreement, and we did not have the exact rental price memorized.
Once we got home, the exact same amount was charged to our credit card again, even though we had already paid for the car in advance. We filed a complaint, and Sixt informed us that we had taken out additional insurance for glass, underbody, etc. at the counter. They claimed it was legitimate because we had signed on the tablet. Sixt refused to refund the amount.
In plain terms, we rented a car for under 300 euros and then paid almost the same amount again for an unnecessary insurance policy. This is deliberate and fraudulent behavior and absolutely unacceptable.
On top of that, we were sent off with a car whose tax disc was expired. It showed the date April 2025, and we rented the car in October 2025. At any public parking area, this results in a 60-euro fine for an expired tax disc. After contacting Sixt, we were assured that we would not have to pay the fines. How generous! We speak English very well and were able to argue our case with Sixt. But what about customers who don’t understand why they are receiving a fine?
Sixt failed to put the correct tax disc on the windshield within half a year. We were told that it was difficult to attach the valid disc because the car was always in use. What a poor excuse for negligent behavior.
Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience with Sixt. We absolutely do not recommend this rental company. If you do book with Sixt, read all documents at least ten times so you don’t fall into the same deliberate and fraudulent trap.

The car was clean and in perfect condition, mechanically and otherwise.
Returning it at Shannon was also an easy process. I’d have no hesitation in renting again from Sixt !

We picked up the rental car at the Dublin Airport parking garage at 10:30pm. The garage was poorly lit, making inspection difficult. The vehicle was parked between other vehicles - this prevented us from viewing the side of the vehicle from more than a few feet away. As instructed, we walked around the vehicle and took photos of any visible imperfections. Though we took photos of minor scrapes and dents, no significant damage was apparent at the time.
Two days later, while parked in good daylight and from a distance and slightly below the vehicle, we noticed a large gouge on the lower body panel beneath the driver’s side door (the right side of the vehicle in the UK). The damage was only visible when standing a significant distance from the car under bright light. Knowing we had not caused this damage, we immediately contacted Sixt customer service to report it. The representative told us a note would be made on our rental file. We also sent them photos of the damage for their records.
Sixt responded stating that they had no record of this damage prior to our rental and that we would be held responsible. We asked whether they systematically take photos of all parts of all vehicles at check-in/check-out. We were told that photos are only taken if damage is noted by staff, and unfortunately, no such record existed in our case. We were also told that someone would follow up with us to discuss the matter further, but no follow-up ever occurred.
Due to our early flight home, we returned the vehicle to the same garage without interacting with any Sixt staff. We took photos and dropped off the key as normal. Later that morning, we received a message from Sixt acknowledging the vehicle return and stating boldly that “No new damages were detected.” This led us to believe they had recognized the damage was pre-existing.
Two weeks later, and without any further communication or documentation, we were charged $1,177.60 for damage to the vehicle. Sixt claimed the damage was discovered during a more detailed inspection.
Apparently, they get two weeks, good lighting, and a trained professional to look at the vehicle. While they could not prove that we caused the damage, we could not prove that we didn't.
Sixt does not take systematic photo documentation of all vehicles from all angles at pick-up and drop-off (as most rental companies do.) They only save photos of damages. This means renters are wholly responsible for proving they didn’t create the damage, placing unreasonable burden on renters who experience sub-optimal conditions for inspections (low light, tight space) and who are not professional vehicle inspectors.
Rent from anyone else!
Undisclosed charges
Sixt charged me €241.37 extra at the counter for mandatory insurance, which was not disclosed in my prepaid booking confirmation. I was forced to buy this expensive premium coverage simply because I presented a debit card instead of a credit card, a condition that was never clearly stated upfront. This is a non-transparent and unfair business practice that significantly increased the final rental price.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
If I could, I'd give zero stars for the rental we made in Dublin from November 3rd to 8th. We rented (booked online) a 7-seater because there were six of us. We were initially given a black Dacia Jogger, but inside there was a long, non-removable plastic bracket. The Sixt employees attempted to remove it, but to avoid damaging it, they decided to give us a new car. Subsequently, they gave us a new gray Dacia Jogger, also with the large, non-removable plastic bracket. A Sixt employee was able to remove it with difficulty, but it was left crooked inside the car. We requested a 7-seater, and we drove all over Ireland with this long plastic bracket in the back seat. The sixth passenger was extremely uncomfortable, especially considering the small luggage. We booked a 7-seater to have seven free seats, not just five. We paid €540 to travel cramped. When paying, we went to the front desk to ask for clarification, and the gentleman agreed with us, telling us to contact Customer Service.
When I returned, I contacted customer service, attaching the contracts, receipt, and photos, and this was their response:
"Please note that the car you booked was provided as requested. If a larger vehicle had been required, an upgrade would have been necessary, at an additional cost.
We do our best to ensure that vehicles are properly prepared for each rental. However, we do not manufacture cars and can only provide vehicles available in our fleet.
For this reason, we are unable to offer refunds or discounts.
Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to welcome you back for a future rental.

Very friendly and helpful staff at their Dublin city centre office. The pickup and drop off process went quite smooth and communication was good at all times. I had a flat tyre during my trip in Ireland and everything was solved promptly thanks to their road assistance team!
