Avoid at all costs. We paid for a cross over SUV (Nissan quasqai or equivalent), automatic; £400 for 1 week. We were given a Renault Arkana with 77.000 kms on the clock, battered with scratches and dinks on all sides, front and back; and filthy inside (all seats were dirty, with food crusts and possibly worse). AMEX kindly spoke to Avis who agreed that if we drove back to Dublin’s airport the following day, they would swop our filthy car for a better one. So here we are at Dublin’s airport Avis office (shared with Budget and therefore, there is a long queue). We are told there is only one car they can offer us - a Nissan Quasqai with 151.000 kms on the clock and a big scratch along the left hand side plus a big dent on the front left corner. Take it or leave it. As it is cleaner inside we have taken it a driven to another Avis desk to try and upgrade with the hope of getting a better car. To no avail as the office is again shared with Budget and therefore queue is enormous. We now understand why the cars are so bad - Budget is the main rental in these offices, not Avis. Our most awful experience ever with more than 30 years of renting cars for holidays. To add insult to injury, we just found out that we could have hired the same car through Budget, for less than half the price we paid with Avis!
We booked through American Express Platinum concierge service. AMEX you need to look into this urgently as clearly Avis cannot offer the service your customers require.

To AVIS reply: no, this is not unusual as you say; quite the contrary. Your brand has definitely lost its old ok reputation in Ireland - just see other reviews both in Trustpilot and Google.

Procedure for rent clear and quick. Staff polite and professional. Cr clean and in perfect conditions. I really suggest this car hire center.

Everything went smoothly. Nice staff, friendly and helpful at pickup and drop-off point. No hassle. Minor detail (and I realise it could've been a major one for others or for me in other circumstances): my reservation was for a small compact SUV (Peugeot 2008 or similar) which a Skoda Scala definitely isn't.

Avis was a name we knew from the USA, so we trusted them in Ireland. Everything was easy and quick, from the online order process, to pick up, to return. The car was new, clean and great on gas. Smooth, friendly, no hassles, no problems.

Made to feel welcome. Everything explained. Excellent staff at reception and at collection. Vehicle was clean, tidy and ready to go.

I was looking to book a car for rent in Ireland. Unfortunately, my state notified me that my license renewal (I have a valid license) would be delayed, likely beyond the time I arrived in Ireland. A couple of car rental companies I called did little than tell me I couldn't rent with them. Avis (specifically "Suzanne") listened, brought the matter to appropriate parties, cross checked it the Shannon office where I would be renting and communicated with me promptly. Suzzanne did not over promise but she was thorough, followed through and got me the answer I needed. I would have honestly been happy even if she had to give me bad news. Thank you, Avis. Ray

Io ho prenotato online, tutti i costi sono stati ben chiari fin dall'inizio e non sono cambiati di una virgola alla consegna del veicolo.
I tempi in loco sono rapidi, i dipendenti precisi ed efficienti.
Il veicolo era in perfetto stato, un'ottima macchina.
In più: mi è capitato di smarrire un oggetto (una macchina fotografica!) sullo shuttle di Avis tra l'aereoporto di Dub e il punto di consegna delle vetture. Bene: diversi dipendenti di Avis si sono attivati in maniera celere ed attenta per assicurare l'oggetto, comunicarmene chiaramente la posizione, darmi le indicazioni precise per il ritiro dell'oggetto stesso.
Il tutto in maniera rigorosa e anche molto gentile.

Insomma, un'ottima esperienza. Sono affidabili e li consiglio.

Avis was excellent in all aspects; the price was favorable, the service was outstanding, and the check in and return process was as smooth and easy as imaginable. I would definitely recommend AVIS, and expect to be a return customer.

Not happy at all. Long wait on arrival. Pre - booked a rate of £156, end invoice was over £340. When I queried at drop off, was told it was tax. Took two weeks to get hold of anyone by phone or email. Was informed it was insurance , double the cost of the rental. The Europe Car que was much busier, probably better service and rates. Extremely rude reply eventually from customer service. Avoid unless you are prepared to pay double what you expect!

I would rather set myself on fire than use this service at Dublin airport again. I am currently still waiting after 3 hours for a car, the man at the desk in the arrivals terminal would not help other than telling us to get the shuttle, even tho other customers had been given key collection cards. We then arrived to a poorly sign posted collection area, the queue was a mess, no staff were directing people or instructing people where to go, other than the occasional shout to “come here to collect keys”. It was so disorganised, no one gave us an explanation or ann apology. I will never be using AVIS again.

An excellent service from Derry Airport. Really helpful staff and lovely spacious Hybrid Toyota Corolla to drive. Would highly recommend.

I always use Avis - hassle free car hire, I never have any issues upon returning either and the cars are in good condition.

I have on 3 separate occasions hired cars from Avis/Budget on visits to Dublin since February 2025.
I make sure to read the small print and feel I understand the contract. My experience has been generally good on these occasions, However I would like to give some feedback:
1. I don't understand why there is an Avis/Budget desk in arrivals (Dublin) sometimes the car is in the basement ready for collection, at other times one has to wait for a bus to the rental office some distance away. I did ask but the answer was ambiguous. The underground car park is dark, tightly parked and it is difficult to take video recording/photos of the car prior to hire.
2. The receptionist seems to type endlessly into the hand held device and asks for a signature, the screen is greasy and dirty - please clean. I think more communication with the customer would benefit the experience. I do not like signing a contract that is not seen first, a paper copy of both contract and bodywork status of car should be offered.
3. I have had to request the emergency contact numbers, I am not confident these apply out of hours, one is the Avis office number and one is the main office number of the AA - will that be answered outside office hours? - please clarify.
4. Please check your car before driving off, the water tank was empty on last visit, the cars need to be roadworthy, I had to drive to the Avis depot to have this filled just after picking up the car. No one apologized for this inconvenience.
5. In my opinion driving in Ireland is challenging and not for the faint hearted or inexperienced.

Friendly welcoming staff on arrival, efficient and swift in getting you on the road quickly. The car was reliable and clean and tidy.

Rented a car through Avios (British airlines points).
Was told that Budget and Avis Ireland do not accept reservations, payment by Avios ( as I was told by the clerk “ haven’t you heard of Brexit?).

My reservation included a second driver included, not in Ireland. Insurance through my credit card, not accepted. Etc etc

You know, don’t allow reservations from Avios if you will not honour them.
Lost points, have to pay for extras I did t want.

Really really poor. My first interaction with an Irish person, and man what a cow. Really wanted to go home before we even got the car.

I have read the recent google reviews and tons claim you have the worst staff. So I’m not alone with my experience.
Avis should remove your franchise

Alors que nous avions refusé un surclassement puis une assurance supplémentaire, il nous a été facturé une "caution" qui devait être rendue à notre retour. Cette caution était en fait une "premium coverage", c'est à dire une assurance qui bien sûr ne nous a jamais été rendue. Parce que nous sommes français et que notre anglais n'est pas très performant ? Ce type d'escroquerie n'est pas un bon moyen d'attirer les touristes.
